O-Zone: Three more days

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Michael from Orange Park, FL

Whoa! Why trade Tyson Campbell? I thought he was our best corner. Make this make sense.

The Jaguars reportedly on Wednesday traded cornerback Tyson Campbell and a 2026 seventh-round selection to the Cleveland Browns for cornerback Greg Newsome II and a 2026 sixth-round selection Wednesday. While the trade has not been confirmed, it was reported by multiple reputable sources. How does it make sense? One is that the Jaguars clearly believe they are better with Newsome than Campbell or they wouldn't have made the trade. Another is that the Jaguars are really high on cornerback Montaric Brown and don't believe there is much of a dropoff – if any – between Brown and Campbell. Also: While the Jaguars signed Campbell to a long-term contract in the 2024 offseason, he was neither drafted nor re-signed by this regime. He also has struggled at times making plays on the ball during his career. One thing to remember, too, is that this trade gets the Jaguars out of a lot of the salary-cap commitment of Campbell's 2024 contract. Newsome's contract runs out at the end of the season, which means the Jaguars can re-sign him or move on at the position. It gives the Jaguars freedom at the position that didn't exist previously.

Josh from Atlanta, GA

Please explain the trade like I'm a moron, I don't understand. Thanx.

The Jaguars think they're better with Newsome.

John from Duval

Tyson? Say it ain't so.

It's so.

Brandon from Arkansas

No way this is the same No. 33 Devin Lloyd that lost his starting job at one time?? I think it's time to consider signing this dude long-term!

Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd, who has worn "zero" since the beginning of the 2025 season after wearing 33 the first three seasons, is playing at the highest level of his four-year NFL career. He is in the final season of his four-year rookie contract and the Jaguars must consider re-signing him. There's time to consider this further.

Dave from Los Angeles, CA

Every time Jaguars rookie wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter touches the ball, it's electric. Feed him.

OK.

DMiz from Sacksonville

Yo, O. Brenton Strange has been playing incredible, and I'm a bit surprised he hasn't been mentioned much for his contribution to the success of this team. Any updates on his injury? Being placed on injured reserve doesn't sound promising.

Tight end Brenton Strange has been as good as any Jaguars player offensively this season. He's on injured reserve and is out for at least four weeks. I don't have the impression this is a season-ending injury.

Edward from Ocala, FL

Given the injury to Brenton Strange, do you think the team will add to the tight end room via a trade?

No. I expect them to move forward for the short-term with Quintin Morris, Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long.

Ok, I agree that "it's always the coaching" is a tired phrase. But what General Manager James Gladstone and Head Coach Liam Coen have done with this team of former misfits is incredible. Coaching (and player acquisition) matters, and as of now, it looks like Jaguars Owner Shad Khan has finally hit pay dirt. The returning players are playing well … the acquisitions are having career seasons … and the rookies are overachieving. Coaching (and player acquisition) does matter. Am I wrong?

The Jaguars players in recent seasons were not "misfits" – and of course coaching matters in the NFL. I have said and written this often. A head coach sets the tone for the organization, and the belief in a head coach and organizational is one of the most important factors for a team's success. If players believe in the direction, a team has a chance to succeed. If they don't, there is little chance for success. I'm uncertain how many more ways – or how often – I can write this.

Jody from St. Augustine, FL

Any truth to the rumor Devin Lloyd is actually "Mean Gene" in disguise? I just think Gene "retiring" and the emergence of Lloyd as an all-world LB coinciding is an amazing coincidence.

My Scooby Sense – not my Spidey or Scobee sense – tells me you believe Lloyd is really former longtime Florida Times-Union sports columnist and Northeast Florida cultural icon/thought leader Eugene P. "Gene" Frenette. I dismissed this idea at first. Upon reconsideration …

Howard from Homestead, FL

Confession time: Sometimes I'm relieved when you don't post my questions.

I am the king of all funk.

Ron from Orlando, FL

How does the team get Hunter more involved offensively?? Feels like we've been underutilizing him or he isn't one of Trevor's primary looks in his read progression, but he's absolutely electric and the low number of targets offensively needs to change.

This is a priority. I expect the Jaguars will get Hunter more involved moving forward. A lot more. We're five weeks into his career, not five years.

Nicholas from Fort Hood, Texas

KOAF: After being irrelevant for so long it felt weird seeing all the coverage of the Jaguars MNF victory. I can't wait to move on.

You won't have to wait. The Jaguars play host to the Seattle Seahawks at EverBank Stadium Sunday.

Brian from ROUND ROCK

Coach isn't going down the rabbit hole of chasing a perfect game. I remember The Lesser Doug did that. The more he preached it, the less the players listened. Winning is the only thing. Besides, what happens after you get the perfect game of 60 minutes of flawless football. Do they all just go home and retire or something?

I guess striving for perfection is another things former Head Coach Doug Pederson did wrong. It seems a minor transgression in the grand scheme of NFL transgressions, but the most disliked coaches are always the most recently dismissed coaches.

Wes from St Augustine, FL

My wife is finally proud to tell people that I'm a Jaguars fan for the first time in 15 years. How far can we go?

Keep it clean, Wes.

Lee from Jacksonville

Was Ryan Nielsen that bad of a defensive coordinator? Only a few personnel changes, but vastly different results.

Jaguars defensive players to a man appear to have strong belief and trust in defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. Belief and trust in direction can matter very much in professional football.

Jeff from Middleburg, FL

Do you think the success we are having thus far is attributed to the newness of a staff and plan that opposition doesn't have much of a historical record to plan by?

No.

Scott from Jax in Rehoboth bch De

So it really is always coaching in the NFL huh O-Man?

It's always coaching in the NFL. It's always coaching in the NFL. It's always coaching in the NFL. It's always coaching in the NFL.

Mic from Jacksonville

Hi, Ozwald. Looks like quarterback Trevor Lawrence running opens up a new facet to the offense. Other quarterbacks change games with well -timed runs. Trevor can, too.! It brings potential injury into the mix, but it may be worth the risk considering how it can change a game. Will we see more?

If and/or when the situation arises, I suppose we will.

JK from Ocala

Mr O. Have the Jaguars ever had a receiver that could "go get the ball" like Travis Hunter? This guy is amazing!! Go Jags!!!

The Jaguars have had a few front-line wide receivers in their history. Jimmy Smith, Keenan McCardell and for a too-short time Justin Blackmon come to mind first. I don't know that they ever have had a receiver with the athletic ability to make plays on the ball when it's in the air to match Hunter.

Charlie from Starkville, MS

How much longer should I wait before selling my car to watch the Jags play in the Super Bowl?

Give it until the bye.

Ken from Jax

What happened to Wyatt Milum? Any update on Walker? Thanks!

Jaguars rookie offensive lineman Wyatt Milum was listed as questionable last week before being inactive Monday, and has progressed after sustaining a knee injury during training camp. He appears on track to being available soon. Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker missed Monday's game after undergoing wrist surgery the previous Monday. While Walker practiced limited Saturday, Coen said Tuesday Walker was still experiencing swelling before Monday's game and the decision was not play him against the Chiefs. Both players were limited in practice Wednesday.

Steven from Orlando

I love how even with all the Jags have done, still no respect. The Jags are only 1.5-point favorites over Seattle. I also know that the odds makers typically account three points to the home team already. This means they expect Seattle to win the game. What else do the Jags have to do, besides win, to get respect? I would rather be the underdogs anyway.

There are a few things I find less interesting than odds and point spreads. The thought of national media yelling at the cameras on television and most Twitter thoughts are among then. None of that stuff matters. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. Sunday.
