O-Zone: Turkey time

JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

JT from Palm Coast, FL

I thought before the season started this team could potentially make the playoffs if it all clicked. It blows my mind that we look far from consistent on both sides of the ball and are still winning. Going into December and not talking about the offseason or the draft is a pleasant change. John, this might be a 11-win team!? We are a year or two ahead of schedule. Winning is damn hard in the NFL.

The Jaguars are 7-4 entering Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn. – and they indeed could win 11 games if they play as they have played through most of the first 11 games of the 2025 regular season. It's also conceivable they could win fewer than 10 games if they play just barely worse than they have through most of the first 11 games of the 2025 regular season. This team is winning a lot of close games and the margin for error is comparatively thin. The Jaguars must continue to play well in close games and clutch situations. They must continue to play hard the entire game. They must continue to believe in the direction of Head Coach Liam Coen. If they do these things, they have a chance to make the postseason and make it interesting if they get there. I don't know if the Jaguars are "ahead" of schedule, but they're making the present fun and the future interesting. And yes … winning in the NFL is hard. It can be almost impossibly hard when you're bad. But even when you're good, which the Jaguars are, it's damned difficult.

Hi, KOAGF. Please explain to me why halftime adjustments in those 10-to-15 minutes can't be made earlier during the first half or even later in the second half as needed. The offense and defense usually get 5 or 10 minutes of break after each drive to cover adjustments. Why do we typically see them most obvious only after halftime?

Coaches do adjust during the game. Teams usually need a few series to get a handle on what opponents are doing. But the reality is that the notion of "halftime adjustments" in the NFL is mostly an overblown phenomenon largely created by announcers and other media. Players usually spend halftime going to restroom and trying to regroup, or getting treatment or a snack. Coaches do have a bit more time at halftime than between series, but the idea of major overhauls at halftime is less a reality thing than a perception thing.

Zone, I think the biggest difference – and one fer quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the offense and staff – is that after each of those turnovers Sunday, I never felt like we didn't have a great chance to tally from them and bounce back quickly. That feels very new.

This team is resilient. It's a characteristic.

Tony from Johns Creek, GA

O, I was concerned about giving up a fourth-round draft pick for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. Not anymore! It's been a brilliant move by Jaguars General Manager James Gladstone. Hopefully, there's money to re-sign him.

I will be very surprised if the Jaguars don't re-sign wide receiver Jakobi Meyers following the 2025 season.

Ed from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL

Looking at the rest of the schedule, it is very foreseeable to end 10-7. Is that good enough, you think, to make the playoffs?

Yes.

Don from Marshall, NC

I don't know everything, but I know you have got to be a good team if you can overcome that many turnovers and win. The farther we get away from that win, the bigger it will become. Huge win, I think! Go Jaguars!

When it comes to understanding that the Jaguars continue to show that they're a good team, and that this past Sunday's victory over the Arizona Cardinals could be really significant, Don remains – correctly – "all in."

Jaypee from The Vortex

Do we have a big enough sample size to re-sign linebacker Devin Lloyd yet?

I expect this to be decided following the 2025 season.

Rich from Dacula, GA

I'm not sure who is the problem on offense – the play-calling or the quarterback. Since the head coach will be staying, that means after the season it's time to see if we can get a second-round selection for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Quit defending him. The fans like that we're winning, but it's looking like we need to reset the quarterback position – if not next year, then for sure before the new stadium is done. TL was the last of the old quarterbacks that were tall and had a big arm. Today's are more mobile and don't have to stay in the pocket.

Trevor Lawrence is going to be the Jaguars' starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. The team is 7-4, the No. 6 seed in the AFC and a game out of first place in the AFC South. While he indeed has maddening moments – and more than a few Sunday – he also threw three touchdown passes. This is where we are.

Eddie from Jacksonville

These fans would have run off both Peyton Manning and Brett Favre during the early years of their respective careers. It is astonishing the short-term memory of the decades of Jaguars quarterbacks who didn't have the arm to make the throws. Let the coaches help the player develop into his best. Trevor is still ascending.

One fer Lawrence.

James from Socorro, NM

What do you think the starting secondary looks like when Jourdan Lewis returns?

Montaric Brown at corner, Christian Braswell or Greg Newsome II at another corner, Lewis at nickel. Eric Murray at safety when healthy and Andrew Wingard at another safety.

Marcus from Jax

Obviously, analytics are a big part of today's NFL and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The question I have is, how specific are the analytics to the team and situation? Meaning, if the analytics say go on fourth-and-1, but you're down three linemen and on your third running back, do the analytics take that into account, or is it up to the coach to take what the analytics say and then apply them in the situation to make a decision?

It's always up to the head coach to make the final decision.

Greg from Marietta, GA

Trevor Lawrence isn't a great quarterback and some would even argue he isn't a good quarterback, but I don't know many other quarterbacks I would rather have with the game on the line late in the fourth quarter. I have been really impressed with how "clutch" he has played on game winning or tying drives this year. The Texans, Chiefs, Raiders and Cardinals wins were all won in the last 2 minutes or overtime.

Lawrence unquestionably is a good quarterback and pretty much unquestionably not yet great. He also unquestionably has been good in the clutch this season, something his detractors seem intent on refusing to acknowledge.

Boxcutter Bill from Mass

This AFC South race down the stretch is going to be fun. The Jags and Texans split. Jags and Texans play the Colts twice in the next 6 weeks. We should be playing meaningful games the rest of the season. In your opinion, out of those three teams who has the better chance at winning this?

The three teams seem very even. This one's going to be tiiiiight.

Brad from Yankton, SD

"Trap Game" beware!!

I don't expect this game to be a trap game. I expect the Jaguars to be prepared and motivated because they have been prepared and motivated in pretty much every game. They will realize the game's significance. They will know the Titans are capable. If the Jaguars lose it will be because they got outplayed by a team with a good defense that is still playing hard, not because they got "trapped."

Biff from Thankful Jax

Why are we thankful for the Funk King? All the people gather. Fly to carry each his burden. We are young despite the years. We are concern. We are hope despite the times. All of the sudden, these days. Happy throngs. Take this joy wherever, wherever you go. Happy T Day Johnny O.

I'm sure we have many things in common. I can't name more than one.

Bill from Ponte Vedra, FL

Trevor Lawrence will never be another Tom Brady, but he still has a chance to be another Brett Favre.

Favre is a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback. I don't know that Lawrence will be a Hall of Fame quarterback, but he can quarterback a team to the postseason and do it a lot.

JT from Palm Coast, FL
