JACKSONVILLE – Look-ahead Wednesday.
Let's get to it …

We are currently at six wins and we are going to play the Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans twice in the last seven games. Ten wins seems to be a reasonable expectation at the moment. Is that enough to secure a wild-card spot?
The Jaguars as they prepare to play the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., Sunday must finish 4-3 over the next seven games to reach 10 victories for the 2025 regular season. And while the three teams you cite are well under .500, I don't know which teams on the Jaguars schedule they "should" beat. This is because the Jaguars this season have not yet shown they are "consistent" enough to circle games and assume victories. The truth is very few NFL teams are good enough or "consistent" enough to circle and assume victories. I do think it's reasonable to think the Jaguars can win more than they lose the rest of the season – whatever form that takes. That would get them to at least 10 victories. Ten victories are usually enough to make the postseason. Every season is different along these lines.

Oh Mighty 'O'/King Of All Funk, can the real Jacksonville Jaguars please stand up? Are they Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde?
The 2025 Jaguars are a growing, developing team in the first year of a new regime in a head coach's first season. They are also an injured team that is fighting its way through a tough stretch. This is what those things look like.

Instead of football, I have a fashion question. Who decides on Game Day attire for coaching staff? Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen would be on Mr. Blackwell's Worst-Dressed coaches list. He always looks like an MLB home-plate umpire, or backhoe operator at local cemetery who digs the hole. He needs brighter, more positive outfits.
You should see the getup Boselli wears.

Definitely NOT the same old Jags. At least until next week.
The Jaguars are 6-4 with victories over the Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans – all teams that by can be considered good teams. They're not the "same old Jaguars." They haven't been the "same old Jaguars" at any point this season.

I really hate that the Jaguars can't move on from quarterback Trevor Lawrence for at least the next two seasons. The contract was given too soon, and it never really made sense. Having to pay Lawrence more money because he earned it would have been a much better problem to have. I know it's not just that simple, but the Jaguars really set themselves back with this one.
OK.

I agree that all pass interference being reviewable is unrealistic. That said, I personally believe pass interference in the end zone, which puts it at the 1-yard line, should be able to be reviewed due to its direct impact on the outcome of a game. These 30-yard throws made in hopes of a pass interference call at the end of games are annoying and actually hurt the optics of the league. Especially in these "the NFL is rigged" times.
Reviewing pass interference is just as unrealistic when it occurs in the end zone as when it occurs anywhere else. It remains a judgement call in that situation. The idea of review is to ensure clear and obvious mistakes are reversed. Pass interference is rarely clear and obvious.

It's nice to be playing meaningful football at this point in the season.
Well, yes.

Hi, KOAGF. I think it's foolish for the head coach to even hint that he might consider not using Hunter next season as a two-way player. After all the hype and the cost of drafting him for this purpose, why would he even go there? Hunter was showing skills and readiness on both sides and he shouldn't be changed into something else.
The Jaguars' coaches and personnel decision-makers following the 2025 season will do what they – and personnel officials and coaches from all NFL teams – do every offseason, which is to say they will meet and decide how best to use all personnel moving forward. This is a more nuanced discussion when it involves Travis Hunter because the Jaguars must decide how extensively – and in what packages – to use him at wide receiver and cornerback. When Jaguars Head Coach Coen discussed this recently, he did so in the vein of not wanting to dig deep into Hunter's future role/usage when the Jaguars are still very much focused on the 2025 season. I don't know what Hunter's role will be moving forward. I expect it will involve him playing on both sides of the ball. The Jaguars don't yet know the specifics of his role and there's nothing wrong with not discussing specifically those specifics until they're known.

Remember back when that Jags sucked?
This season? No, I do not.

You wrote: The reduction in penalties was perhaps the easiest-to-overlook Jaguars storyline Sunday. The Jaguars played their cleanest game of the season. This is a vast understatement of the understatement. The key was pre-snap penalties and miscues. It was obvious, they simplified pre-snap motions, simplified play calling (the sleeve) and limited Trevor's accountability. On the defensive side there was a higher rotation rate on the line and simplified coverage schemes. The key was simplifying. This could be a troubling sign for the long term at the quarterback spot.
NFL coaches for as long as I have covered the NFL have responded to difficult situations or midseason crises by simplifying game plans and strategies. It's one of the most tried-and-true approaches in a rough patch. If it's an indictment on the future of Lawrence, then it has been an indictment of pretty much every quarterback who ever has played professional football.

Next season is a long way away, but hopefully we bring wide receiver Jakobi Meyers back. He was a hell of a pickup.
'Twould appear so.

We have a great kicker in Can Little. Why is Coen choosing to go for it on fourth downs within kicking distance? It gives the other team momentum when we fail. I wish we would let a little Little happen.
It's hard to win in the offense-centric, analytics-driven NFL these days always kicking field goals on drives when you pass the 50-yard line. If you're waiting for Coen to get passive in those situations, you're going to have a long wait.

O, Shouldn't you have had 35 "No's" to match the 35 points the Jags scored?
No.

I wrote earlier in the season that 10 wins might not be enough to earn a wild-card spot. That's looking increasingly true. Now it even looks like an 11-win team could be left out of the party. Wow.
An 11-victory team missing the postseason is possible this season. It also would be really unusual. Seven games remain for most teas. My guess is this plays out where all 10- and 11-victory teams make the postseason. We'll see. But you know what? In a 17-game season, 10 might not always make it. That's OK. Ten victories aren't what they used to be.

Obviously, there is no replacement for in-game experience but how much do you think a year in the film/prep room, training room, locker room will help Hunter despite missing time?
Quite a bit.

Hey, John. Do you see this team potentially moving off of running back Travis Etienne Jr.? I know backs around the league are staying healthier longer, but it feels like Bhayshul Tuten is bound to take that next step forward and become an elite back.
It's very possible the Jaguars allow running back Travis Etienne Jr. to sign elsewhere when he becomes an unrestricted free agent following the season. This in no way is a reflection for how the team feels about Etienne. He has performed remarkably well and is a high-end professional. Rather, it's a reflection of the nature of the running back position in the NFL.

My extended family lives in Rhode Island and their kids play peewee football. The Peewee Jr. Jags team was in the "Super Bowl" last weekend. The day before the game Liam Coen sent the team a video saying he had played as a Jag once upon a time and wished them well for the game. Very cool for coach to take a minute out of his day to help inspire some kids. One for Liam. And the Peewee Jags won their game.
That is very cool. Go Peewee Jags.
