JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …
Tony from Johns Creek, GA
O, I could nitpick the loss, but I can't. The Jags exceeded all expectations. I can hardly wait for next season!
This was a common inbox sentiment following the Jaguars' 27-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills in an AFC Wild Card Playoff game at EverBank Stadium Sunday – and understandably so. While Sunday was brutal and heartbreaking, the Jaguars indeed had a remarkable season. They won the AFC South for the third time in franchise history. They won eight consecutive games to end the regular season. They won more games – 13 – than all but one team in franchise history. They were as good as any team in the AFC entering the postseason – and Sunday very much reflected that status. The Bills are really good. Their quarterback, Josh Allen, is great and will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday – and Hall of Fame players find ways to win big games. The 2025 Jaguars indeed exceeded the expectations of most observers. They exceeded the realistic expectations of many people within the building. Perhaps most importantly, they put a rough past in the rearview and established a new culture/identity. What happened this season guarantees nothing for the future. The decision-makers will not be complacent and will not assume they will be good next season because they were good this season. But the foundation on which they will build the future is solid and very much in place. What they did this season was remarkable and the thought here is this team will be very competitive moving forward. Stay tuned.

Final score: Bills 27, Jaguars 24, Analytics 3. When will they learn?
This was a common refrain among Jaguars fans Sunday evening, and I expect it will remain one for a while after quarterback Trevor Lawrence was stopped inches short on fourth-and-2 from the Bills 9 with the Jaguars leading 7-3 with 11:21 remaining in the second quarter. The Bills immediately drove 92 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. To repeat what I wrote Sunday in O-Zone Late Night – and what I wrote often this season when Head Coach Coen went for first downs in similar situations: He is going to be aggressive. He's not going to change. The Jaguars were 13-4 with one of the best offenses in the NFL taking this approach. When it works, it's confetti. When it doesn't, it's something that's not as cool as confetti.
Richard from Jacksonville
I know I'm not saying anything original, but they should have taken the field goal early, not go for it. Kicker Cam Little missed, it happens. I just believe in the playoffs you take the points. Analytics be darned.
Many Jaguars fans feel this way. This is not the way this team is going to play.
Rusty from Ocala, FL
O, feels like the better team lost. Wish we would have kicked the field goal on that fourth down. No shame in the turnaround from 4-13, though. We are ahead of schedule and there are no moral victories, but do you think Coen learns to take points in the future (shin play)?
Here's what Coen said about the decision following Sunday's game: "Not even a close decision. It was all go for it on all the metrics. With where you're at down there that low, you've got to go for it. Fourth down, that low, you at least feel like you're going to have to an opportunity to stop them and have a field position change, and very worst you get the ball back with good field position, and it didn't end up working out."
James from Socorro, NM
Having the No. 1 run defense doesn't matter when you let them just pass the ball right down the field with the season on the line.

Coaching blunder. You score points first, live and die by analytics.
The Jaguars won 13 games and lost four in the regular season with Coen coaching aggressively. They lost in the first round of the playoffs in a very good game to a very good team. I don't expect the Jaguars to change their approach in this situation.

What was the reason we lost?
There were many reasons. One wore No. 17.
Chris from Las Vegas, NV
Thank you, Trevor. Thank you, Josh, Thank you, Parker and Liam, and Jakobi. Thank you, trainers, coaches, and staff. Thank you, O-man. Thank you, Jaguars, for an unforgettable season.
Thanking me is unnecessary. All others … well said and well deserved. Not every memorable season ends with a Super Bowl. If you only appreciate Super Bowl seasons you're going to let a lot of good stuff go unappreciated. This season was good stuff. It should be appreciated.
Jeremy from Riverview
Oof. That was not the ending to the season I wanted or expected. Disappointed but cautiously optimistic for our future. But that one stung, O. Bad.
When postseasons end in the NFL, they end fast and they sting. It's an awful empty feeling.
Mark from Archer
Well, Trevor had a nice run of been a good quarterback. Then it's back to same old Trevor. He was lucky he only had two interceptions. He very easily could have had five. Once more he costs us the game with a turnover at the end.
I would say this is the height of all silliness, but I learned long ago writing this column not to assume I have seen the height of all silliness.

Waste of a season: We played like it was Week 5. Nothing carried over from the last eight wins. Every throw looked wobbly and not sharp. Played man to man instead of zone and got beat. Left too many points out there.
Losing sucks. No doubt.
Brian from Round Rock, TX
We lost because we didn't run enough. The head coach and quarterback were out of sorts in the first half. These are the stories of this game. Any answers?
The Jaguars lost Sunday because they couldn't stop Allen twice after the offense took the lead twice in the fourth quarter. That was the story of Sunday's game. Possible answers: Get better rushing the quarterback with four down linemen and don't have coverage/communication lapses in big moments against future Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

I've gone through all the stages of grief already. Honestly, we asked for these dudes to be perfect the last nine weeks and they came up three minutes short to the best quarterback in the AFC who made two ridiculous plays and beat us. Some days your best isn't good enough.
Good eye.
Brandon from Louisville
What a terrible day for bad Trevor to show up.
Lawrence didn't have his best game Sunday. He threw three touchdown passes, including two in the fourth quarter.
JT from Palm Coast, FL
I cannot give the traditional, "knee-jerk" reaction and get upset. This was an incredibly fun last few months. I see a lot of reasons to believe that this is sustainable. Almost none of us expected to win 13 games this year. Thank you, Jags. It was a hell of a season.
Yes, it was.

O, why wasn't there enough emphasis on the run game against the Bills? They were awful defending the run. Also, this defense not only didn't create turnovers, but were pushed around a lot in the second half. Disappointing end to a promising season.
The Jaguars were very effective running on Sunday. Why didn't they run more often? This is a little tricky to explain, so bear with me: Sometimes you're really effective running because you're running against the proper looks to run effectively. If you run against looks that aren't as conducive to run effectively, you're not going to run as well. The Jaguars call a lot of their offense at the line of scrimmage. The idea behind this is to allow him to get the offense into the best plays possible considering the looks. That's not my best O-Zone answer of all time, but you can't run effectively against every look. Or something like that.
Bradford from Orange Park, FL
It all came down to mistakes. We made them, Buffalo didn't. And, I'm as big of a Liam Coen as can be ... but, it finally got him. I get it isn't that crisp. But, we lost by three.

Tough loss that one, but I was at the Wembley game against the Rams and if you've told me we would be playing meaningful games in Jan I would've bitten your hand off. We've all fallen in love with the team again and that's something. Roll on next year and thanks for all your coverage, KOAF.
"We've all fallen in love with the team again and that's something." That felt worth repeating.
