JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed ninth-year WR Tavon Austin, the team announced today. Additionally, the Jaguars have placed S Daniel Thomas on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and activated QB C.J. Beathard and CB CJ Henderson from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
Austin, 5-8, 180, enters his ninth season in the NFL after initially being drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2013 draft. His career totals include 100 games played – 75 with the Rams (2013-17), 21 with the Cowboys (2018-19) and four with the Packers (2020). Austin has recorded 3,366 scrimmage yards in his nine-year career (1,340 rushing yards and 2,026 receiving yards). He has also served as a returner, totaling 188 punt returns for 1,512 yards and 25 kick returns for 451 yards.
The Baltimore native attended West Virginia and earned First-Team All-Big-12 honors as a senior in 2012 after finishing with 114 receptions for 1,289 yards and 12 TDs to go along with 643 rushing yards and three TDs. Additionally, he had 32 kick returns for 813 yards and 15 punt returns for 165 yards. He was named the Paul Hornung Award winner in 2012, which recognizes and rewards versatile, high-level performers in major college football.
Austin will wear No. 34 for the Jaguars.
