"Though he played only two years in high school football, Rackley earned a scholarship to Lehigh, became a four-year starter and was drafted by the Jaguars in the third round. Now, he has a shot to become the sixth rookie drafted by general manager Gene Smith — and the only one in this year&39;s class — to start his first regular-season game." Florida Times-Union

"The first groups will continue to play a bit more this week," Del Rio said Monday between a pair of Jaguars 2011 Training Camp practices. "I think that's been pretty solid throughout camp with those guys, but we're just trying to bring up to speed some of those back-end guys who are fighting for roster spots.

We're just trying to make sure we're putting them in position to do some things they can do so we can get a good evaluation. That part of it will continue. In the end, it's important we select the right 53 guys for this roster." jaguars.com

"Garrard, as has been the case since his return, said Monday he is confident he will not only practice throughout the week, but play against the Falcons."  jaguars.com

"Coach Jack Del Rio ruled Jones-Drew out of Friday&39;s preseason game against Atlanta, saying he wants to control Jones-Drew&39;s contact." ESPN.com

Stat of the day

The Jaguars will hold a joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday and the teams will meet for their second preseason game at EverBank Field on Friday at 8 p.m. The Falcons have two former Jaguars on their roster with linebacker Mike Peterson (2003-08) and long snapper Joe Zelenka(2001-08).  Falcons wide receiver Andy Strickland spent time with the Jaguars in 2009 after signing as an undrafted rookie from Wofford. Zelenka owns the Jaguars record with 128 consecutive games played.  Peterson is third in Jaguars history with 837 tackles in six seasons.

Schedule

The Jaguars will hold one practice this morning at the Florida Blue Health & Wellness Practice Fields.  Following practice, running back Maurice Jones-Drew will be distributing backpacks full of school supplies to more than 300 children from the Police Athletic League.

The last word

"He's making progress. Playing with a better base, playing with better hands inside. He's got some explosiveness. He's hungry, I think he's happy to be back with his teammates and practicing and working at it hard. He's getting a little bit better, he's got a ways to go yet but he's definitely doing the things to give him a chance to continue to develop as a football player."
