Chad Henne will start at quarterback for the Jaguars Sunday.
Henne, who replaced an injured Blaine Gabbert and threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns in a loss at Houston Sunday, earned the position based on performance, Jaguars Head Coach Mike Mualrkey said in a press conference Monday.
Gabbert left the game Sunday with an injury to his right elbow in the first quarter. The issue kept him from gripping the ball well enough to throw Sunday, and Mularkey said he will be listed as questionable this week.
But Mularkey also said Henne will start whatever Gabbert's status.
"Chad Henne will start this Sunday," Mularkey said Monday. "That's based on his performance yesterday."
Gabbert, the No. 10 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, had started the last 24 games for the Jaguars. He had completed 162 of 278 passes for 1,662 yards and nine touchdowns with six interceptions this season.
Henne, a fifth-year NFL veteran who started 31 games for Miami from 2009-2011, has appeared in four games for the Jaguars this season. He completed 16 of 33 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions Sunday.
