JACKSONVILLE – The final days leading to the 2022 NFL Draft were fitting.
That's because with Round 1 approaching fast, analysts and experts continued to disagree on who the Jaguars will select No. 1 overall Thursday night.
While Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker has become the most popular projection for the Jaguars in the jaguars.com '22 draft tracker, analysts remained split between Walker and four other players – Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal, Oregon edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux, North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu and Michigan edge defender Aidan Hutchinson.
"Jags General Manager Trent Baalke sees the gifts, traits and all-out effort of this former Bulldog and brings him to Jacksonville. DUUUUUVAL!" Charles Davis wrote of NFL Media wrote while projecting Walker to the Jaguars.
Seventeen of 35 analysts in the final tracker projected Walker to the Jaguars, and that percentage increased in recent days.
"There is still a small chance this could still be an OL, but I'll ride with Walker," Will Brinson of CBS Sports wrote.
Mike Florio of NBC Sports/Pro Football Talk agreed …
"They thought about taking a tackle," Florio wrote. "The current thinking is they will stick with a pass rusher."
… as did Rob Rang of Fox Sports.
"Walker is an exceptional talent who, paired with Josh Allen, would provide the Jaguars with the bookend pass-rushers to transform the defense," Rang wrote.
Neal, Hutchinson and Ekwonu all have been mocked to the Jaguars to varying degrees throughout the offseason, and Pete Prisco of CBS Sports this week again projected Neal No. 1 overall.
"The entire offseason has been about _Jaguars quarterback] Trevor Lawrence; that should continue,” Prisco [wrote.
Hutchinson, an overwhelming favorite among draft analysts in early April to be selected No. 1, also remained a popular selection in recent days.
"Jacksonville will be able to slot Hutchinson across from Josh Allen, and immediately have one of the best pass rush duos in the AFC, helping to accelerate their rebuild," Natalie Miller of USA Today Draft Wire wrote.
Ekwonu, too, remained a popular selection.
