The Jaguars have recently signed six players to new contracts: CB
Aaron Beasley, RB Chris Howard, LB Eddie Mason, LB Erik Storz,
DE Jabbar Threats and DE Lamanzer Williams. Length and terms
of the contracts are not disclosed.
Beasley, 25, was a restricted free agent who was tendered an offer
last month. A three-year veteran, he was drafted by the Jaguars in
the third round of the 1996 draft from West Virginia. Beasley has
started 29 of 34 games played in his career and has five
interceptions.
Howard, 23, was signed as a free agent last September after James
Stewart was injured. He appeared in eight games, rushing seven
times for 16 yards and catching one pass. Howard was a fifth-round
selection by Denver in the 1998 draft out of Michigan.
Mason, 27, joined the Jaguars last December 2 and played in the
final four games and both postseason contests. A third-year pro
who spent two seasons with the New York Jets, Mason made nine
tackles on defense and five on special teams.
Storz, 23, played in the regular-season finale and both playoff games
after being activated off the Jaguars' practice squad on December
- He was an undrafted rookie out of Boston College who spent
part of the 1998 training camp in Jacksonville.
Threats, 23, spent the final 12 weeks of last year on injured reserve
with a a knee injury. He played in the season's first four games,
making two tackles on defense and one on special teams. Threats
was signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie in 1997 out of
Michigan State.
Williams, 24, was a sixth-round draft choice of the Jaguars out of
Minnesota last year. He spent the final three months of the season
on the active roster and saw action in two games, making one tackle
on special teams.
