JACKSONVILLE – The NFL and Associated Press today announced that Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen has been named a finalist for 2025 AP Coach of the Year and QB Trevor Lawrence is a finalist for both 2025 AP Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year.

Coen, 40, led the Jaguars, who went 4-13 a season ago, to a 13-4 record, an AFC South title and the franchise's first postseason berth since 2022. He became the first rookie head coach in NFL history to win 12-plus games after taking over a team with four or fewer victories the season prior and more than tripled the team's win total (13 wins in 2025, 4 wins in 2024). With five, Jacksonville had the second-most wins in the NFL against playoff teams (Broncos, 49ers, Texans, Chargers and Panthers), and posted a .625 win percentage against such clubs. The Jaguars' six road wins this season (San Francisco, Denver, Arizona, Las Vegas, Tennessee and Indianapolis) tied for fourth in the NFL.

Jacksonville's offense under Coen scored 25-plus points in 13 games this season (tied for the NFL-high), including eight straight from Weeks 9-16. The Jaguars' +13 turnover margin was third in the NFL. With two first-year coordinators, the team boasted the NFL's sixth-best scoring offense (27.9 ppg) and the league's top run defense (85.6 ypg). Jacksonville also became the only team in NFL history to have 30-plus takeaways one year after having fewer than 10 the season prior (31 in 2025, 8 in 2024). Under Coen, the Jaguars set several franchise records, including points scored (474), touchdowns scored (55), points per game (27.9) and first downs (356).

Lawrence, after missing seven games last season and undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, finished third in the NFL in total touchdowns (38), fifth in passing touchdowns (30), sixth in passing yards (4,007) and tied second in rushing touchdowns (9) among NFL quarterbacks this season. Lawrence's 38 total touchdowns established a single-season franchise record. He helped guide the Jaguars to 13 wins, five of which included game-winning drives (fourth-most in the NFL). He went without a turnover in a four-game span (Weeks 13-16), tied for the third longest streak in the NFL this season. In that same span, he had four consecutive games with a passer rating of 100.0-plus, tied for the second-longest streak in the NFL this season.

In the Jaguars' 48-20 Week 15 win over the Jets, Lawrence became the only player in NFL history with at least five passing TDs, 300 passing yards, one rushing TD, and 50 rushing yards in a single game. He received player of the week honors for his performance. In a 34-20 victory the following week at Denver, he became the third player in NFL history to have at least 275 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in consecutive games. Over that two-game span, the 26-year-old Lawrence accounted for 10 total touchdowns and zero turnovers, becoming the fourth player in NFL history to do so, joining QBs Josh Allen (2024), Drew Brees (2019) and Patrick Mahomes (2018). The late-season surge earned him AFC Player of the Month honors for December/January.

To date, the Jaguars have never claimed an AP NFL Coach of the Year, Most Valuable Player or Comeback Player of the Year. Coen and Lawrence are one of five finalists for their respective awards.

Winners will be announced at NFL Honors presented by Invisalign at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 5 at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The program will be broadcast on NBC and NFL Network and streamed on Peacock and NFL+.
