The Jacksonville Jaguars signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Jerry Porter, who spent the past eight season with the Oakland Raiders.
"We're excited to have added Troy Williamson in a trade and Jerry Porter in the start of free agency here," said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio about today's transactions. "I'm very excited about adding Jerry. I think he's an outstanding football player. There were a couple guys that we thought we would take an opportunity at in free agency and he was at the top of the list for us. I really think it was a great fit for us. He's an explosive player. He's had some big years. We think his best football is still ahead of him and we're very excited to have him."
Porter, 29, started all 16 games last season for the Raiders and finished second on the team with 44 receptions for 705 yards with a team-high six touchdowns. The 6-2, 220-pound wide receiver enters his ninth NFL season after spending his first eight seasons in Oakland. The Washington, D.C. native was originally drafted in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft out of West Virginia.
He has started 63 of his 104 career games and has 284 career receptions for 3,939 yards (13.9 avg.) and 30 touchdowns. He has six career 100-yard receiving games. He will wear jersey No. 84.
