The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed first-year punter Spencer Lanning to a contract.    Lanning spent the 2011 preseason with the Chicago Bears after signing as a rookie free agent.

Lanner, 5-11, 200, was a four-year letterman at South Carolina where he handled the punting duties for the final three seasons.  He punted 171 times for 1,792 yards (42.6 avg.) with 46 punts inside the 20.  He also connected on 34 of 44 field goals over the final two seasons and scored 182 points (80 of 84 PATs).  As a senior, he punted 54 times for a 44.1-yard average with 18 punts inside the 20 and was 17 of 24 on field goals.  He was the only player in the Southeastern Conference to handle both punting and placekicking duties as a junior, averaging 41.9 yards on 69 punts and making 17 of 20 field goal attempts.

The Rock Hill, South Carolina native was an all-state selection as a senior at York High School.  He handled field goals, kickoffs and punts in high school and also lettered in soccer.
