The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed rookie tight end Zach Miller to a contract. Miller, 24, was the club's sixth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the 180th pick overall. He is the first of the team's nine draft picks to sign a contract this year.
Miller, 6-4, 245, is only the third tight end drafted by the Jaguars in the last seven years. A former college quarterback at Nebraska-Omaha, Miller threw for 4,096 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 3,122 yards and a school-record 50 touchdowns in four seasons.
A native of Wahoo, Nebraska, he rushed for a team-high 1,061 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior. As a sophomore in 2006, he set a school single-season record with 19 rushing touchdowns.
