Jimmy Smith Placed On Reserve/Did Not Report List

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed defensive tackle John Henderson, the team's first-round choice in this year's draft. The Jaguars now have every player on the roster signed. In addition, the team placed wide receiver Jimmy Smith on the reserve/did not report list. Smith was the only player who did not report to training camp today.

A total of 89 players reported, although the team's annual conditioning run that opens the camp was cancelled because of a lightning storm near the stadium.

"I can understand where Jimmy Smith is coming from, and I can understand where the club is coming from, as well," said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin. "From my standpoint, we want our team in camp working together. We want this situation to get resolved. There’s frustration (on Jimmy’s part), but now there’s frustration on both sides, because Wayne (Weaver) is very upset at some of the things that were said. Remember, this is not a free agent issue. The player is under contract. There are issues that have to be dealt with in that regard as well. Jimmy Smith is a great football player, and we want him here."

The Jaguars will begin two-a-day practices on Friday at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. Friday on their practice fields adjacent to ALLTEL Stadium.
