Jaguars Owner Shad Khan on Jaguars' Hot Start: 'Play to the Whistle' Ahead of Wembley Game vs. Rams

LONDON – So far, so good.

And even if the 2025 season has been very good through six games, Jaguars Owner Shad Khan knows the NFL enough to enjoy it with perspective.

A 4-2 record is a good start. But it's just a start.

"Winning is awesome; winning is great," Khan said.

Khan, in his 14th season as the Jaguars owner, spoke to Jaguars Media Saturday morning – a day before the team's 14th game in London, the 11th game at Wembley Stadium. The Jaguars (4-2) will play host to the Los Angeles Rams (4-2 ) Sunday – but while that's the team's best record entering London, Khan emphasized there's "a lot of football to play."

"Not too long ago, a couple of years ago, we were 8-3 then we know what happened," Khan said, referring to the Jaguars' start to the 2023 season that ended with the team missing the postseason at 9-8. "There are many other precedents like that.

"We have to feel good. We have to be confident. [But] very important we don't lose track of the next 11 games."

Added Khan, "Winning is fun. You win, you don't want the week to be over. You lose, you want to just hit delete right now other than you want to learn from why you lost and the correction.

"So, winning is fabulous, but it's like football: You have to play to the whistle and just don't get tendinitis patting yourself on the back. We have to enjoy the moment, absolutely, but don't get too happy and content with it."

Khan discussed multiple topics Saturday, including the Jaguars' first-year leadership trio of Head Coach Liam Coen, General Manager James Gladstone and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tony Boselli.

Khan called the group "very effective."

"The results speak for themselves," Khan said, "and I'm not just talking about wins and losses. How the team is connected – the transparency, the authenticity."

Khan, too, discussed what he called the "evolution" within the team in these areas.

"This issue of alignment, transparency, communication, 'everybody being on the same page' … it's not rocket science," Khan said. "Everyone talks about it and everybody wants to do it, but they're not doing it. Here, the big difference is we're doing it.

"Hopefully, we're going to win, but if we're not winning, we're still doing it and then it takes on a different direction: 'OK, what are we going to do to win? Why didn't we win?'''

Khan added, "What's also different is the structure we have before the game, after the game, during the week, what went right, what was the plan, what are we going to do, what are the midweek adjustments? This is in the heat of the season and a lot is really before the season.

"All of those things we're talking about … you have to have those attributes."

Khan also on Saturday discussed:

  • Gladstone’s approach to personnel: "I've liked pretty much everything about it. The results, again, speak for themselves. What James has really brought in, which is in a way common sense – but certainly we weren't doing it – was you look at the attributes of a football player – the speed, the weight, the height, brain power, their processing speed, how they are as a team member and are they the glue that's going to hold the rest of that? That ability to anticipate that and really put it in the mix, then practicing it and you see the results … I think that's really the X-factor on what the team as a whole, with James' leadership, is doing."
  • On Boselli as EVP: "First of all, the 'GM job' is just too big for one person, frankly. Football is complicated. The responsibilities are immense. Tony, his background, he's about ideal for that role. We talked about it in the past, and this was a perfect time to be able to implement that from Day One."
  • On the positive effect of playing annually in London on Jacksonville and the Jaguars: "It has done everything and more. We have a record number of people here from Jacksonville, from the business community. They're getting that the NFL games have put the city of Jacksonville on a national global stage. The synergies between London and Jacksonville … whether it's economic or many other ways, job creation … being able to harness that, we see that in action. I've enjoyed running into people, talking to them, what they do there, what they're doing here … overall, it has been highly positive." The Jaguars have played in London every year since 2013 except for the 2020 COVID-19 season, playing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium three times in addition to their Wembley games. "Moving forward we have a number of actions," Khan said. "We're waiting for the league and nothing happens here without league approval. I don't want to speculate what's going to happen, but I'm optimistic this journey is going to continue."
