JACKSONVILLE – Liam Coen leaned into perspective Monday.
The first-year head coach spoke to the media a day after the Jaguars' most one-sided loss of the 2025 season, acknowledging the season's first "real adversity" while emphasizing the team's situation entering a Week 8 bye.
All is not lost. Not even close.
"Everything is still ahead of us," he said.
Coen, speaking a day after a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley Stadium in London, discussed the state of the team – and the need to reduce the mistakes that have led to a two-game losing streak after a 4-1 start.
"We have to play cleaner football," Coen said. "That's the reality."
The Jaguars in recent weeks have been plagued at times by penalties, sacks, dropped passes and other avoidable mistakes – with quarterback Trevor Lawrence sacked 14 times in the last two games and the Jaguars committing 23 penalties for 195 yards in the span.
Coen said he spoke with the coaching staff Monday, emphasizing that "we cannot go back and try to reinvent the wheel here" and saying the key instead is playing more fundamentally sound with better situational awareness and "handling the controllables."
"That's where we're at," Coen said. "We have to pour into that and find out [this week], 'What do we do best? What are the things that we do best in all three phases?' Go and dive into and pour into those things. That's how I've been taught to get back on track, personally.

"There are times you have to dig deep and reinvent the wheel because you have a bunch of holes. I don't think that's the case. We have not played our best the last two weeks going into the bye, which does kind of suck.
"It's not a great feeling, but my thing to this team is going to be, 'Guys, we have done so many good things. We are a really good football team, but not when we hurt ourselves.'''
The Jaguars at 4-3 are two games behind the Indianapolis Colts (6-1), with two games remaining against the Colts – home in Week 14 and at Indianapolis Week 17. They are tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the seventh-best record in the AFC with a head-to-head victory over the Chiefs in Week 5.
"You've won four games and everything is right in front of you," Coen said. "This is an actual test of adversity. You've lost two games in two weeks, not playing very well, and against some darn good opponents. When you don't play very well and you're not clean and not fundamentally sound, you're not doing those things … you're not going to beat playoff-caliber teams like that.
"I do know this team in terms of, 'I believe that we compete, that we're tough, that we care a lot, that we don't quit.' What we need to do better is we need to coach the details and we need to rep the details and put them into action on a more consistent basis, or else this is not a fun result that we're living in right now."

NOTABLE
- Coen on Monday said he has no plans to replace kicker Cam Little or to sign competition for the position. Little, a second-year veteran, has missed four of his last eight field-goal attempts. He missed a 50-yarder in each of the last two games and also missed an extra point against the Seahawks. "No, no, no, no, no, no – got a lot of confidence in Cam still," Coen said. "I talked to Cam. He was in here today. He's not going anywhere and we're not doing anything with it (the kicker position). He's going to get away from this thing for a few days and go reset and the good, the bad, the ugly – whatever it is – we're starting fresh when we get back in here. Got a lot of confidence in the guy. I do. He takes so much accountability. He's going to kick his way out of this thing and he's going to make some big kicks for us this year."

- Coen said a timetable for linebacker Devin Lloyd to return is uncertain. Lloyd, the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September, missed Sunday's game with a calf injury. "It's still 'TBD' on this week," Coen said. "Hopeful, but we're trying to be also smart with it, figuring out, 'OK, what's the best to get him feeling as good as he can to go play at a highest level?' "
