Jaguars Prepare To Face Divisional Rival Titans | "These Are Games You Need To Win…"

friday quick hits

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Friday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (7-4) will play the Tennessee Titans (1-10) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday in a 2025 Week 13 game. A look at Friday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media for the final time before Sunday:

Coen likes the Jaguars' focus this week, saying there's absolutely every reason for that focus – even with the Titans entering Sunday with six consecutive losses.

The Titans have lost their last three games to above .500 teams by a combined 16 points – 27-20 to the 7-4 Los Angeles Chargers, 16-13 to the 6-5 Houston Texans and 30-24 to the 8-3 Seattle Seahawks.

"If you just watch the tape, which doesn't lie typically, this is not a team that's playing like they're 1-10," Coen said. "That's the reality. They have enough game-wreckers and players that can impact the game in all three phases that there's no room for [lack of focus].

"I hope and believe we are mature enough and honest enough with ourselves and with each other that this is a team that will be hungry for a win. There are a lot of reasons. This is the NFL. There's a lot of pride in what we do.

"This is another great opportunity and test to go on the road, in division – and as you head into late November and early December, these are games you need to win." …

The Jaguars on Friday released the third of three injury reports for the week, with four players ruled out for Sunday: Starting defensive end Travon Walker (knee), offensive lineman Chuma Edoga (calf), starting safety Eric Murray (neck) and starting right guard Patrick Mekari (concussion).

Edoga and Mekari were injured during a 27-24 overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, with Walker missing that game after being injured in a 35-6 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers the previous Sunday.

"It's at this point, pain," Coen said of Walker. "There are things we can control and there are things you can't. This is one of those we can't really control. It's an injury we have to deal with and hopefully we get him back as soon as possible."

The Jaguars on Wednesday opened Murray's 21-day window to return from injured reserve,

Ten Jaguars players were listed with no status Friday, meaning they are expected to be available to play Sunday: Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (ankle), tight end Hunter Long (knee), right tackle Anton Harrison (knee/ankle), defensive end Danny Striggow (knee), linebacker Yasir Abdullah (finger), cornerback Christian Braswell (hamstring), cornerback Jarrian Jones (quadriceps), cornerback Jourdan Lewis (neck), safety Antonio Johnson (elbow) and defensive tackle Arik Armstead (hand).

Lewis has missed the last three games.

"It's great to see him back out on the practice field as much as possible," Coen said of Lewis. "Jourdan's done a great job of helping those other guys as much as possible without being out on the grass on Sundays. He's just the confidence, the swagger, the communication, the way he sees the game, that always helps when you got a guy out there.

"He has made some critical plays for us this season."

Brian Thomas Jr., a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie last season, also is expected to return Sunday after missing the last three games.

"He's feeling better, he is getting healthier," Coen said. "We want to get him going. We need to get him going because it'll help our team and our offense, just don't want to make sure you're putting him in any position that it could end up hurting it." ...

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. will be a team captain Sunday after being nominated this week for the NFL's Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award – presented each year to an NFL player "who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents and integrity in competition."

Etienne has rushed for 815 yards and five touchdowns on 169 carries this season, catching 24 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

"Since we got here, TJ has done nothing but try to be the best version of himself," Coen said. "He's really dominated his role in terms of wanting to improve the areas we talk about wanting to improve. Consistently putting good things on tape, from his habits in practice, his preparation during the week, with his preparation on his body.

"We've been so pleased with TJ's consistency throughout this time with him and then the playmaking: You can't argue guys that go out and make people miss and get hard yards and have been a huge reason why we've had the success that we've had this season." …
