Jaguars' 2026 Minicamp Observations, Day 2: BTJ, Muhammad Stand Out Again

minicampservations day 2

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars held Day 2 of their 2026 Mandatory Minicamp at the Miller Electric Center Wednesday.

Three Jaguars media members – senior writer John Oehser, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and correspondent John Shipley – shared an observation following practice. Here they are:

Oehser: The major theme of the Jaguars' 2026 offseason continued Wednesday, with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. turning in yet another memorable practice on Day 2 2026 Minicamp. The third-year veteran on Wednesday caught multiple touchdown passes and multiple other deep passes, drawing loud cheers each time from the crowd that packed the MEC stands for the Jaguars' lone open practice of the '26 offseason. Head Coach Liam Coen yet again spoke after practice of the importance of Thomas as a deep and consistent threat, noting again that the chemistry Thomas and Trevor Lawrence have developed this offseason is important and real. To be sure, Thomas is far from the only storyline of the offseason. The improvement of the secondary. The addition of rookie tight ends Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol. The return to health of wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter. All matter. But there's no bigger, more-important theme than Lawrence/Thomas. If what they have built this offseason is real, and if they carry the offseason momentum into training camp and the regular season, it will add an explosive element to an already balanced, productive offense. And that will make that already productive, balanced offense potentially really special.

Shadrick: The Jaguars used Wednesday's practice to ramp up the competitive environment in front of about 2,000 fans with a few "Mamba" periods. The offense-versus-defense team periods were best of three, focusing on red zone and third down. The defense won the majority of these reps for the day, as noted on the practice-field scoreboard. They also worked on an end of game two-minute situation to wrap the day. Thomas continued to shine with multiple receptions down the field from Lawrence. With Thomas showing more confidence day after day, that's great news for the offense and play-caller Coen, giving this group more flexibility. The final minicamp practice – and likely some of the final full 11-on-11 work of the offseason program – is scheduled for Thursday, with Coen saying Wednesday that next week's final week of organized team activities will focus on positional work and certain passing game matters on both sides of the ball.

Shipley: It has been hard to watch a Jaguars practice this offseason and not notice second-year cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, who had another terrific outing Wednesday. Coen said on Day 1 minicamp Tuesday "you could argue most improved" when it comes to the former undrafted free agent cornerback from Oregon, and Muhammad lived up to that with his latest practice outing. Muhammad, who has seemingly recorded a handful of pass breakups each practice, made a nice play on the ball Wednesday to break up a potential touchdown pass in red-zone drills. He also recorded an interception for a second consecutive day, nabbing a bobbled pass in the air. Coen and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile both have had big praise for Muhammad and his offseason performance, and Wednesday was perhaps his best day yet. This is the time of year when players start to fight for spots, and Muhammad is starting to stake his claim in the cornerback room.
