Jaguars' 2026 Minicamp Observations, Day 3: Strong Day for Lawrence, Offense

obs day 3

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars held Day 3 of their 2026 Mandatory Minicamp at the Miller Electric Center Thursday.

Four Jaguars media members – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter/editor J.P. Shadrick and correspondent John Shipley – shared an observation following practice. Here they are:

Oehser: The Jaguars' three-day '26 minicamp concluded Thursday with another competitive day, and with Head Coach Liam Coen again pleased with the offense and quarterback Trevor Lawrence. With the team again participating in competitive "mamba" drills, Lawrence completed red-zone touchdown passes to wide receivers Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington. Rookie tight end Tanner Koziol also continued to show the reliable, high-end catching ability that he has shown throughout this unpadded offseason work. The Jaguars will conclude the '26 offseason program with a week of organized team activities practices next week, with Coen on Thursday saying he is pleased with the work that has been accomplished to date. He specifically said he is pleased with Lawrence's progress, with the sixth-year veteran throwing fewer than five interceptions despite the nature of offseason work being to experiment and sometimes make risker throws than would be the case in regular-season games. Evaluating a roster based on offseason work is risky stuff, but Coen has made clear throughout the offseason he likes a lot about what he has seen thus far – and he specifically praised defensive end Travon Walker and the defensive secondary Thursday. This is Year 2 of this regime, with a feeling around the MEC that a good and solid foundation has been built for when that second season begins for real in a little more than six weeks.

Sexton: I spent a good bit of Thursday's morning practice watching the specialists. Kicker Cam Little, punter Logan Cooke and long snapper Ross Matiscik are likely the best trio in football based on production and recognition. They're always together, always working on the finer points of their craft. When you have an All-Pro long snapper, a Pro Bowl punter and a kicker who holds first- and second-longest field goals in NFL history, there's a lot to like. "The way you see them work every day, there's a reason why they're so talented and why they're so good," special teams coordinator Heath Farwell said. "They're typically the first guys out here on the field warming up, getting ready, prepping, they are so much about it. It's important to be great. They help each other; they hold each other accountable. Together the three of them, they bond and it's special to watch." We spend a lot of practice watching the offense and defense, but when you talk about how good this team can be in 2026, it's impossible not to point in the direction of guys who can literally flip the field.

Shadrick: The Jaguars wrapped mandatory minicamp Thursday with more "Mamba" work. We continued to see Lawrence connecting with receivers. That includes Meyers, who following practice Thursday said while he feels good with the whole offense in his first offseason with the team, he's still working on verbiage daily. Coen after practice discussed how the NFL officiating crew has helped the team the last three days, including sitting in on positional meetings and having plenty of interaction behind the scenes on best practices, communicating rule changes and points of emphasis. We are one week from the dead zone and vacation.

Shipley: The Jaguars have done plenty of red-zone work during minicamp, and the battles have been fairly even between the offense and defense. After the defense had the upper hand on Wednesday, the offense registered several scores Thursday. Meyers and Washington each caught a touchdown pass from Lawrence, with Washington making a heads-up play to cross the goal-line on a short pass. Those were among Lawrence's highlights Tuesday, with the veteran quarterback looking comfortable and in command of the offense in his second year under Coen. Coen said after practice that despite the Jaguars putting an emphasis on pushing the ball downfield and being aggressive, Lawrence has done a good job taking care of the ball and has thrown "less than five" interceptions throughout the offseason program. It was a nice way to cap off minicamp for the sixth-year quarterback.
