O-Zone Late Night, Week 12: Jaguars 27, Cardinals 24 (OT)

OZONE LATE NIGHT W12

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Jaguars won a critical road game Sunday.

And they're very much in postseason contention.

We'll get thick into the weeds of a 27-24 overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium soon enough, but those are pretty much the pertinent Jaguars storylines as Sunday becomes Monday.

What mattered was the Jaguars won a second consecutive game. They are 7-4 and playing meaningful, exciting games as Thanksgiving approaches.

Now, into the weeds. Thickly.

Let's get to it …

Mike from Orlando, FL

Can we just admit that the Trevor Lawrence experiment has failed?

Lawrence is not an experiment. He's the Jaguars' starting quarterback and is going to be the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. He threw 3 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions Sunday and the Jaguars won, 27-24. He helped the Jaguars as must as he cost them. The Jaguars are 7-4, well in the AFC playoff picture and 1 game out of first place in the AFC South.

Mark from Crescent Beach, FL

We have to try someone else. It's not fair to the team, the fans or to TL!

The Jaguars are 7-4. They're not going to "try someone else."

Jim from Jagsonville

Welcome Back, Brenton Strange!! DUUUVALL!! Let's Go Jaguars!!!

This was the much-ballyhooed, sometimes-weird, often-off-kilter First Email of the Game. It came after a 30-yard pass from Lawrence to tight end Brenton Strange on the Jaguars' first series. Strange indeed made quick impact Sunday upon his return after a five-week absence because of a hip injury, catching five passes for 93 important yards. This is unsurprising. He may be the Jaguars' best offensive player.

James from Socorro, NM

The ultimate Trevor experience!

Fair.

Jim from Jax

Seriously? THAT was roughing the passer? C'mon man, the NFL has to do something about these really, really weak calls.

This came immediately following Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd being called for roughing the passer on Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the second quarter. The call from this view was marginal at best. The NFL is not going to do anything about such calls.

Chiana from München

Can we call the penalty touching the passer now?

I smiled at this.

Paul from St. Augustine, FL

Halleluja! Holy &^%! Where's the Tylenol?!?

… and this.

Wayne from Jacksonville

There isn't a more stressful sport to watch than a Jacksonville Jaguar football game. #fan4life

The NFL is not the Southeastern Conference. It's a league of close games. The Jaguars are winning close games and that's why they're in postseason contention. The alternative is losing close games and not being in playoff contention. This is better.

Oscar from Palm Coast, FL

John, I don't understand why we run the ball so well and we go away from it.

Because running in the NFL is hard and you usually can't do it every play.

Dave from Jacksonville

At this point, it is far more likely that our quarterback will cost us any given game than that he will win a game for us. That is absurd for a $275 million player.

Lawrence helped the Jaguars as must as he cost them Sunday. The Jaguars are 7-4, well in the AFC playoff picture and one game out of first place in the AFC South.

Jeremy from Wise, VA

Week-to-week league. This team looked NOTHING like the team that beat the Los Angeles Chargers last week.

It's a week-to-week league. Sometimes it's a quarter-to-quarter league and a series-to-series league. Sometimes it's a play-to-play league. You win how you win, you move onto the next game and you hope you win enough to get into the postseason. Then you hope you play your best four games of the season so you can hold a trophy. That's it, Banya. That's the meal.

Paul from St. Augustine, FL

I'm starting to think that 4-13 last year wasn't some fluky result. Is this roster improved from last year? Yes (at least before the injuries.) Is the coaching better? Yes. But it sure looks like Gladstone has more work to do this offseason.

The Jaguars are 7-4 through 11 games and very much in postseason contention. They have victories over five teams currently at or above .500 – the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers. The NFL is a week-to-week league and General Manager James Gladstone – and the Jaguars – will certainly work to improve the roster in the offseason. You don't revamp the roster to an ideal degree in one offseason. That's not how this works.

Will from Savannah, GA

I get it's the NFL, different regimes, different situations every time. I just also think the backup quarterback losing thing is still a thing that won't go away. And it's beyond pissing me off. Pull the records, because it's pathetic.

The Jaguars beat the Cardinals Sunday with backup Brissett starting at quarterback for the Cardinals. The Jaguars-losing-to-backup-quarterbacks-thing wasn't a thing, though it's understandable people thought it was a thing. Maybe now it's not a thing.

Tery from Jacksonville

Never mind. Fans gonna fan. Go Jags.

Go Jags.
