JACKSONVILLE – For the starters, a big day will come in two days.

That was a key topic on Day 11 Jaguars 2026 Training Camp Tuesday morning – a day in which offensive line injuries remained a major storyline along with playing time for Saturday's preseason opener. First topic first:

Starters will not play Saturday.

"Not in [Preseason] Week 1, for sure," Head Coach Liam Coen said.

Coen said starters and front-line players will focus on Thursday's joint practice against the New Orleans Saints – which will take place two days before the 2025 AFC South Champion Jaguars open the 2026 preseason against the Saints at the Ceasars Superdome in New Orleans, La.

"Hopefully, we can survive with the ones and twos getting the majority of the joint practice – and then the younger guys, give them a little bit of a break [in practice Thursday] so that they can play in the game," Coen said.

Coen on Tuesday discussed the reason behind playing starters more in joint practices than in preseason games.

"It's a controlled environment that you're still getting physical work, but you're thudding; you're not tackling to the ground," he said. "Not as many blind shots and hits that guys maybe are not going to see. And then just in a game setting, obviously that [physicality] occurs, right? Much more.

"Where we are at right now, especially from a health standpoint, we can't really afford to go into a game and let them roll and see what that would look like from an injury standpoint. It is a more controlled setting."

The Jaguars are also scheduled to hold joint practices against the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before playing those two teams in the final two 2026 preseason games – both of which will be played in Jacksonville.

"You practice against pros that know how to practice, and you're doing it with coaches that stress the same things of taking care of one another and let's be pros about this," he said. "I think that that's when you can feel comfortable about going and doing that."

The Jaguars on Tuesday continued working through recent offensive line injuries, with players such as starting guard Ezra Cleveland, tackle Walker Little, guard Patrick Mekari and guard Emmanuel Pregnon not participating in team drills.

Anton Harrison worked at left tackle Tuesday, with center Robert Hainsey working at center. Those two players are projected as starters, with Jonah Monheim on Tuesday working at left guard for Cleveland, Wyatt Milum at right guard for Mekari and Chuma Edoga at right tackle.

Little worked at right tackle early in training camp with Cole Van Lanen – projected as a starting tackle – on the Physically Unable to Perform list since the start of training camp.

"You just get thin; you get thin," Coen said. "You start putting more reps on other guys that may not be truly prepared for the amount of reps that they then have to take, which, as you could see today, thins out a little bit of the groups. Your twos are moreso mixed of threes and fours and it just kind of gets a little bit thinned out, unfortunately."

Added Coen, "Thankfully we haven't had a ton of big, big ones, right? Knock on wood. It's just these are the times of the year it happens, it occurs."

Coen said the defense had a strong day Tuesday, particularly against the run.

"I thought the defense came out with more energy and better mindset and mentality," Coen said. "They kind of took the fight to us, to the offense in the run game today."

Added linebacker Dennis Gardeck, "That's just who we are as a defense. It's not anything we're trying to do. It's who we are. There are ups and downs at camp, bodies feeling a certain type of way. But one thing that won't change is who you are.

"We have a bunch of physical, ready-from-the-jump guys."

PLAY OF THE DAY

Wide receiver Parker Washington continued his strong training camp with another big-time play Tuesday, connecting with quarterback Trevor Lawrence on a deep pass down the left sideline after Washington got open against cornerback Travis Hunter in coverage. Lawrence and Washington have had a good connection all camp, but they have been especially effective attacking defenses downfield in recent practices.

STANDING OUT

• Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers made a diving reception to secure a first down from Lawrence during the third-down period, marking one of the offense's best plays of the day.
• Cornerback Jabbar Muhammad continued his strong training camp with a pass breakup and near-interception, and Coen called him one of the team's most-improved players after practice.

INJURY WATCH

Appearing to be out of practice Tuesday: Linebacker Jack Kiser (knee), tight end Quintin Morris,  Little, linebacker Jalen McLeod, Pregnon, defensive end Zach Durfee, Mekari, Cleveland, tight end Brenton Strange. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna. Van Lanen (knee) remained on the Physically Unable to Perform list to start camp.
