O-Zone Late Night, Week 15: Jaguars 48, Jets 20

Articles-Tile

JACKSONVILLE – This team is good. The quarterback is, too.

Anyone watching the Jaguars throughout the 2025 season knows the first sentence is true. Anyone watching quarterback Trevor Lawrence in recent weeks knows the second sentence is true, too.

Lawrence on Sunday threw 5 touchdown passes and ran for another in a 48-20 victory over the New York Jets at EverBank Stadium – the AFC South-leading Jaguars' fifth consecutive victory and Lawrence's third consecutive game with a passer rating of more than 100.

We'll discuss Lawrence's rapid recent development in this and future O-Zones, but know this:

He's playing at an elite level in recent weeks.

And the Jaguars are playing as well as any team in the AFC, maybe the NFL.

Nothing is clinched yet – and the Jaguars (10-4) must keep winning to stay ahead of the equally hot Houston Texans (9-5) in the AFC South – but this team is showing it's good. The quarterback is showing it, too. It is going to be an exciting next month (or longer). Buckle up.

Let's get to it …

TCB. Taking Care of Business.

This is a good place to start this O-Zone Late Night, because "taking care of business" without question was Sunday's storyline. The Jaguars were expected to win against the Jets, now 3-11. They needed to win to stay in first place. That can sometimes be a tough combination in professional football. The Jaguars methodically did what they needed to do Sunday and that's a good sign for this developing, surging team.

Richard from Jacksonville

I think it's time for the are-we-good, are-we-really-good, we-can't-win-with Lawrence and is-this- contending emails to stop. Do you think they will?

Until he throws an interception. Fans fan. It's what they do.

Marlin from Trenton, FL

Zone, I am starting to believe!

The Jaguars are 10-4. They started the season 4-1 and have beaten good teams all season. Their lone losses since Week 2 are to the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans – 3 of the NFL's best teams. They have won 3 consecutive games by 17 or more points. They are in first place. If you're not believing now, I don't know what it will take.

Clayton from Shawnee, OK

The team is clicking on all cylinders.

Yup.

JT from Palm Coast, FL

Our highly-paid quarterback is … Kklling it!!! Playing like a man possessed.

Lawrence turned in a third consecutive solid, impressive game Sunday. He started fast, again looking very confident and very accurate. He threw for 5 touchdowns and ran for another. He threw accurately. He played with confidence and poise. It looks sustainable. He continues looking like a player taking a step. That's another good sign for this developing, surging team.

Dan from Madrid

Wow, TLaw is cooking.

He's good. We're reaching the point where it's stubborn to think otherwise.

Steve from Shreveport, LA

Thirty-one points in the half! Wow! who is this team?!

They're the AFC South-leading Jaguars, the No. 3 seed in the AFC and a serious contender for – and in – the postseason. They have been good all season. They're getting better now.

Mark from Archer

John, I remember a time not to long ago when the Jaguars seemed to never be able to score on their opening drive. So glad those dark days are gone.

You are not alone.

Richard from Jacksonville

That was an impressive opening drive in a multitude of ways.

This was the much-ballyhooed, oft-aromatic, sometimes-accurate First Email of the Game. What it lacked in wit and verbosity it made up for in accuracy. The Jaguars indeed drove impressively on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead. Lawrence was impressive. So were the receivers. It set the tone. Good stuff.

DJ from Grass Valley, Ca

SMACKSONVILLE!!!

OK.

JT from Palm Coast, FL

Jakobi Myers is one of the best in-season pickups we have ever had. Dude is automatic.

Jaguars wide receiver Jakobi Meyers indeed has been an otherworldly-good midseason pickup. Acquired via trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, he has 27 receptions for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns in 6 games since. More than statistics, his reliability and consistency have helped Lawrence and the entire receiving corps. Midseason picks are often vastly overrated. It's difficult to overstate how much this one has mattered.

Jim from Jagsonville

We went from a touchdown to field goal over a dumb penalty.

We have to get someone to fix those little lights.

Jim from Jagsonville

Once again, I request we resign ETN. That is all...

The Jaguars love, love, love running back Travis Etienne Jr. He is a total professional and a huge reason this offense is playing at one of the league's highest levels right now. What that means in terms of his contract that expires following the season remains to be seen. Running back is a tricky position to re-sign. Here's hoping Etienne returns. He's a pleasure to watch.

Alan from Biggest little city

I'm so glad Trevor is on my fantasy team … and favorite team.

Winning is cool. Fans like it.
