Lawrence "Feels Good" as Jaguars' 2026 Offseason Continues

JAGS TUES

JACKSONVILLE – He feels good in February, and that's a good change.

The goal for Trevor Lawrence now is to improve again after improving a lot, and the Jaguars' starting quarterback discussed that and other topics with Jaguars Media at the Miller Electric Center this week.

This is a good time for Lawrence – and he's looking forward to the coming season.

"I feel good and that's great," he said.

Lawrence spoke Monday, five weeks after a strong 2025 season ended for he and the Jaguars – and nearly two months before the start of the 2026 offseason program. Head Coach Liam Coen spoke, too, discussing how Lawrence can improve in 2026 – a season that will mark Lawrence's sixth as the Jaguars' starter and second in Coen's system.

Lawrence had his best NFL season in '25, with Coen saying Lawrence's grasp and command of the offense improved dramatically as the season continued.

"Now you've got to take that that next step of ownership, that extreme ownership you talk about," Coen said.

Lawrence made major strides in multiple areas in 2025, producing a franchise-record 38 touchdowns – 29 passing and nine rushing – and finishing fifth in the Associated Press Most Valuable Player voting.

"We saw a huge uptick in his just ability to go out and not even worry about the formation or motion anymore," Coen said. "It was like, 'Now I'm playing.' That evolution and development continue to refine. Now it's like, 'Dude, this is your group. Nobody messes with your group.'"

Lawrence, after a 2025 offseason spent rehabilitating from season-ending shoulder surgery and learning Coen's offensive scheme, threw 10 touchdowns with four rushing touchdowns and seven interceptions as the Jaguars started 5-4. He threw 19 touchdowns with five rushing touchdowns and five interceptions in an eight-game winning streak to end the regular season.

Coen said Lawrence's improvement extended beyond statistics.

"He was audibling and killing plays," Coen said. "He was not just canning our plays from one to the other, he was killing it all together to an audible we had built in – but not into the play call. He had it in the toolbox, but you're not sure when it's going to come up.

"That's triple-layer cake, almost. That's that next level of it. That's cool to see. As that continues to grow and get refined, it's like, 'Dude, this is your group and the standard that you hold yourself to you have to continue to hold the rest of the group to – and when that standard's not being met you have to do something about it.'"

Lawrence said the coming months will be about "continuing to try to find my edge individually as a player, and how can I get better."

"I'm sure we're going to break down the season," Lawrence said, "the good, the bad, the ugly –everything – and look at, 'Okay, what are some areas of my game throughout the season that maybe I struggled with – whether it's accuracy in a certain area of the field, maybe it's decision-making –that gave me trouble? How can I process quicker?

"I think that'll naturally happen in the second year of the system, but I have to put the time in to make sure I continue to learn and grow. And don't just take it for granted and say, 'All right, I already know this stuff so now I can just hang out and show up and already know the offense.'

"There is some comfort in that I don't have to relearn the offense. But there is a continual growth mindset of, 'I can always find different things that I can master and totally own the system. That's the next step that's going to be collaboration between me and the staff."

Lawrence said he hasn't thrown since the loss to the Bills, and that he likely will start next week – a sharp contrast to the past two seasons. He spent the early part of the 2024 offseason recovering from multiple injuries, including a sprained AC joint, then didn't throw until shortly before the opening of the 2025 offseason program after undergoing surgery on his non-throwng shoulder.

"It's really nice," Lawrence said. "I got surgery last year in the middle of December and basically was here every single day, rehabbing, trying to get back healthy, trying to put a lot of time in to where once I was healthy, I could just hit the ground running.

"When OTAs started, I had just started throwing, so when this staff saw me, they were probably like, 'Oh man, this guy's not as good as we thought he might be,' but being healthy is huge. You can give yourself your brain and your body a break physically.

"I was able to take four weeks and disconnect from it, be with my family, give my brain a reset. That was really awesome. Now I'm back working out. There are always things that you work through, but nothing serious. I'm able to lift and do everything I need to do, which is great."
