JACKSONVILLE – Let's get to it …

Hi, KOAGF. Slap me for a math question that only applies for one week (after Sunday and until the Colts game). If the Jags beat the Titans Sunday and the Texans beat the Colts, the tiebreaker between the Jags and Colts would be the conference record. The Colts would stand at 6-3 and the Jags would stand at 5-2. The Jags would technically be in first place based on tiebreaker percentage and not number of wins, correct?
This is a bit premature, with the Jaguars' current focus very much on Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium – and considering the emphasis in these parts on being nice, we typically refrain from slapping questioners regardless of the question. But since you asked … the first postseason tiebreaker for division title is head-to-head games, which wouldn't yet apply because the Jaguars have yet to play the Indianapolis Colts this season. The second tiebreaker is record in division games. The Colts and Jaguars in your scenario both would be 2-1 in the division. The third tiebreaker is record in common games. The Colts in your scenario would be 5-3 in such games and the Jaguars would be 5-2. This means the Jaguars technically would be in first place – if indeed, I have all the figuring right. Either way, remember: Being technically in first place on December 1 means nothing because the standings will change dramatically each week until the end of the season. There's a ways to go in this thing. Tiebreakers will play out as they play out. What the Jaguars must do is win as many games as possible, starting Sunday in Nashville.

You know the saying, "Better lucky than good?" Yea, that's Trevor Lawrence. Gladstone will be finding a franchise quarterback in the next 2-3 seasons once we're past TL's nightmare contract.
Maybe the saying should be "better 7-4 than 4-7." That's Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, too. It's possible Jaguars General Manager James Gladstone will be looking for a franchise quarterback two or three seasons into the future. Many things are possible 2 or 3 seasons into the future. That's a long time in NFL years. It's also possible the Jaguars will be very comfortable with Lawrence in two or three years. Stay tuned.

I guess if the Jaguars win the Super Bowl, but Trevor throws two picks some people will say, "Yeah, but he's still not a franchise quarterback."
Yep.

I think BT(drop) was never as good as everyone thought, including me. He was a product of defenses playing bend but don't break against a bad Jaguars team. I hope we don't waste time and downs on him on Sunday. He needs to try to prove himself with whatever scraps he can get. What's Head Coach Liam Coen going to do?
I expect Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. to have a role in this offense Sunday when he returns after missing the past three games with an ankle injury. I don't expect it to be "scraps" and it's a bit extreme to call including him in the offense a "waste of time and downs." I do think he needs to prove himself and continue to gain Lawrence's trust in a passing offense that now features wide receivers Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers and tight end Brenton Strange as proven, trusted options.

Mr. O, I'm not sure fans will ever stop ragging on Trevor, but I do think it's way premature to give up on him. Now I'm not suggesting that Trevor is Brett Favre, John Elway or Peyton Manning. But let's look at some comparative stats from each quarterback's first 4 seasons. Interception to TD ratio. Favre 75%, Manning 73%, Elway 110% (more interceptions than touchdowns), Lawrence 66%. Lawrence wins. Rush TDs. Favre 4, Manning 0, Elway 3, Lawrence 15. Lawrence wins. Completion %. Favre 62.4%, Manning 56.7%, Elway 49%, Lawrence 63.7%. Lawrence wins again despite being on his third head coach and learning 3 different systems. Give the man a chance. He's going to be fine.
It's tricky and not always representative to compare statistics across eras, particularly with the current NFL significantly more favorable to quarterbacks than past eras – even eras so recent as the ones in which Manning and Favre played. And the thought here is Lawrence likely won't develop into a Pro Football Hall of Fame-level quarterback, that being a very high – and relatively rare – level. But he is absolutely going to get a chance to prove he will be fine and to prove he can be a quarterback who consistently gets his team to the postseason – and puts them in position to win. That's the first step and he's certainly within range of becoming that – if he indeed is not already that.

Say it ain't so, Zone! Jones has a fractured fibula? This is all part of their plan! They know we can't beat backups.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones reportedly has a fractured fibula and is expected to start against the Texans Sunday. The Jaguars play the Colts in Jacksonville next week and play the Titans Sunday – and it's the Titans game that is currently concerning the Jaguars.

I brought up the idea that this may be the best opportunity the Jaguars have had for a deep playoff run in 25 years. You brought up the 2017 season. My thought process was that team seemingly came out of nowhere, had a significant limitation at quarterback and still likely had to get through Tom Brady on the road. There is a good chance this year that the Jaguars don't see any first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterbacks in the playoffs. That could change but considering the Jaguars have been eliminated by either Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes every time they have made the playoffs in the 2000s I am excited that one of them may not be standing in the way this time.
Your question asked if this is the best opportunity for the Jaguars to make a deep playoff run in the last 25 years. My answer pointed out that the Jaguars made a deep playoff run in 2017 because a run to the AFC Championship Game is a deep playoff run. This therefore would not be the "best" opportunity as much as an equal opportunity.

Is Travon Walker's knee injury more serious than they report? Should we be worried?
I don't know what "they" reported. I don't even know who "they" is. Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker hasn't practiced the last two weeks because of a knee injury sustained in a Week 11 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers and he has been on the injury report. He will miss a second consecutive game Sunday. I don't expect it to threaten to end his season.

So the Jags are wearing their black and white "I Give Up" uniforms. Nothing says "we know we suck, we're just happy to be here" like these uniforms. When can we burn these and never see them again?
You care far, far more about this than I do. I'm not saying you're wrong to be so passionate. The passion indeed is adorable. I'm just saying I don't have much energy on this.

Hi, Zone: I wanted to drop a line to all the T-Law haters. The history of the Super Bowl is littered with average-to-good quarterbacks. Some who won (Trent Dilfer) and some who didn't (Chris Chandler). None of your three Washington quarterbacks were considered elite. If Myles Jack was not ruled down, Blake Bortles is most likely in the Super Bowl. Lawrence definitely needs to up his game, but as history has shown, average quarterback can end up in a Super Bowl.
This is true. It's just as true that we don't yet know how history will judge Lawrence. He hasn't been elite through four-and-a-half seasons. He hasn't been bad. What he will be in the coming weeks and coming seasons is to be determined.

For everyone bashing Trevor, I can think of many teams who would want him. Are they any sure bets better out there? Just ask the Cleveland Browns. They just started their 42nd quarterback since 1999 last Sunday.
Yep.

This is it. The biggest game of the year. Throw out the records. Throw out the standings. It's time to defeat the most evil franchise in professional sports, the Tennessee Titans. Their players are dirty. Their cheerleaders are ugly. Their music is overrated. They must be crushed, humiliated, beaten down, and exposed. No blowout is big enough. If they never win another game, it will be too soon. Let it not be today. Let's go JAGUARS!
Howard is ready for some football.
