Local Jacksonville Kids Surprise Arik Armstead With Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Nomination
Children from Guardian Catholic surprised DE Arik Armstead with his 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee news during a Literacy Locker Room event presented by Gallagher. The award is the league's most prestigious honor, recognizing NFL players who have exhibited excellence on the field and whose passion to impact lives extends beyond the game.
Community Champion: Kevin Brown, Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful
During the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans game, the Jaguars honored Kevin Brown of Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful as the Jaguars' Community Champion of the game, presented by Florida Blue. Brown, a former marine science teacher at Fletcher High School (Neptune Beach, Fla.), has organized volunteer-led beach cleanups and educational programming to support marine and environmental advocacy through his work with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful, City of Jacksonville's affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Made up of volunteers, the Keep Jacksonville Beautiful commission organizes events and educational outreach promoting sustainability and environmental restoration.
Jaguars in the Community: Celebrating New Construction Program Graduates
The Jaguars, Florida State College at Jacksonville, and Goodwill Industries of Northeast Florida, along with partner DeWalt Tools, recently kicked off the concentrated construction 'Building Futures Together' track of Goodwill's A-STEP (Academic Support Through the Employment Process) program. Dr. Greg Wurth, FSCJ's Dean of Workforce Education; Dane McGraw, Goodwill Industries of North Florida's VP of New Mission Ventures; and T-Neisha Tate, Jaguars VP of Social Responsibility, attended the graduation ceremony for the first 'Building Futures Together' class. DeWalt generously provided each graduate with a bag of essential items to kickstart their construction careers. 👏
