Ryan Davis could get the opportunity for which he has waited on Sunday.
Eben Britton will get another chance, too.
Davis, a defensive end who signed with the Jaguars as a rookie free agent this past offseason, was signed to the active roster from the practice squad Friday, the same day Jaguars Head Coach Mike Mularkey announced that Britton will start at left guard Sunday.
Davis was one of two players signed to the roster Friday, with the team also signing wide receiver/return specialist Micheal Spurlock.
The Jaguars released defensive end Aaron Morgan and offensive lineman Daniel Baldridge Friday.
"It's obviously a big moment," Davis said Friday as the Jaguars (1-3) prepared to play the Bears (3-1) at EverBank Field Sunday. "It's a great honor to be activated from the practice squad. I feel like I have to go out there and step it up. No drop-off."
Davis spent training camp and preseason with the Jaguars, and has been on the team's practice squad throughout the season. He had two sacks in the preseason.
"He's instinctive," Mularkey said. "He's got a little bull rush to him. When he sets an edge he has a little edge to him. He can help us special teams-wise, and that's important."
Davis said he tried to hide his emotions when Mularkey told him he was being moved to the active roster.
"I had a straight face and looked him in the eye," Davis said, smiling. "I didn't want to smile right then and there. On the inside, I was jumping up and down. Ultimately, this is my dream, to play on Sunday. That was my goal, to get activated. I feel like now that it's happened I have to play hard."
Mularkey said Davis will be a game-time decision between he and veteran George Selvie, the latter of whom worked limited this week after being out the first four games with a knee injury.
Selvie was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report, with linebacker Daryl Smith ruled out with a groin injury for a fifth consecutive week and wide receiver Laurent Robinson ruled out with a concussion.
"With the concussion thing, different guys react different ways," Mularkey said of Robinson. "Some can come back immediately and not feel good one day and pass the next day. It depends how he responds to that."
Spurlock could be active and play a role as a returner and in the slot Sunday, though Mularkey said much will depend on his ability to pick up the offense from wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan.
"If I don't feel comfortable about it, probably not," Mularkey said.
Mularkey said the decision to start Britton came after a good week of practice for the four-year veteran guard.
Britton, who missed Weeks 2 and 3 with an ankle injury, struggled in the first half of a 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, then was removed from the game. Rookie free agent Mike Brewster played the second half.
Mularkey said early in the week practice would determine the starter at left guard.
"He's very prideful," Mularkey said. "He came in here with a great attitude. A lot of guys would sulk and handle it in a much different way. He didn't do that. He works hard all the time, so it wasn't like he tried to work harder. That's hard to do for him.
"You can tell it's important to him. With another week, I think he's probably going to be better health-wise."
