Campservations, Day 17: Maximizing Opportunities

CAMPSERVATIONS 17-v2

JACKSONVILLEJaguars 2026 Training Camp continued Sunday.

It was the 17th day of the second training camp under Head Coach Liam Coen, featuring a practice of about an hour and a half at the Miller Electric Center. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, team reporter Kainani Stevens and correspondent John Shipley – will share an observation.

Here are Sunday's "campservations:"

Oehser…

  • Day 17 wasn't '26 camp's most memorable practice, though it had energetic moments as the Jaguars worked in light pads as they began looking ahead to two joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the MEC this week – and Friday night’s preseason finale between the teams at EverBank Stadium. A highlight Sunday came when wide receiver Parker Washington and cornerback Jourdan Lewis had some words – and shove or two – after Washington wrestled a completion from Lewis in red-zone work. The day also marked the return to practice of right tackle Cole Van Lanen, who spent the early part of training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List. Sunday overall had a preliminary feel, which likely again will be the feeling during a Monday walkthrough. That's because the high-point, intense segment of the week will be the joint practices against the Buccaneers Tuesday and Wednesday. Those will mark the last hitting, intense preparation points for the Jaguars until the week of the regular-season opener. Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen spoke after practice of there being a feeling of needing to lock things down because the time for doing that is running out. The regular season is drawing closer, and the awareness of needing to be ready is heightening. Tune in Tuesday and Wednesday. There could be some intensity around the MEC.

Sexton…

  • Time is getting short at the MEC. When camp opened in late July, the start of the season was so far away players didn't even look in that direction; they had to be in the moment. This time next week, the roster will be all but finalized for the Cleveland Browns in Week One. "You have to maximize these opportunities," Head Coach Liam Coen said after practice Sunday. "The continuity and chemistry are so important that every single time we step out here there has to be real intentionality and not just another training camp practice. We're building toward something here, and we have to sharpen our edge." The Jaguars will walk through Monday and Thursday, which leaves Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday night for players on the bubble to make an impression. That should add intensity and pressure to those joint sessions with the Buccaneers.

Stevens…

  • The Jaguars Sunday practice was somewhat spirited and had some notable injured players return. Washington was back to full speed after missing joint practice last week with an undisclosed injury. We also saw Lanen, a recent activation from the Physically Unable to Perform list, participating in individual drills for the first time in '26 camp. Things got a bit chippy with Lewis and Washington after the receiver made a difficult, contested catch for a touchdown during team period. Another highlight was defensive lineman Matt Dickerson tipping a pass from quarterback Trevor Lawrence pass down to himself and returning it for a would-be touchdown. Also spotted: New offensive line addition Daniel Faalele, who weighed in at 380 pounds and who I can confirm is a very large person. Monday will be a walk through leading up to the joint practices with the Buccaneers.

Shipley…

  • The offensive line is getting healthy at the right time. Van Lanen went through individual drills, while Wyatt Milum and Chuma Edoga returned to practice after being banged up. Faalele also practiced with the Jaguars for the first time, working at left guard after being acquired in a trade with the New York Giants. "We'll have to see how he takes to a whole new system," Coen said. "Being in Baltimore [with the Ravens] and then going to New York, that [system] is kind of what he has known." Also Sunday: Rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher had an active practice. Boerkircher, the No. 56 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft who is already known for blocking skills, made one of Sunday's most impressive plays the day in the passing game with a notable contested catch against Jaguars safety Antonio Johnson in red-zone drills. The catch showed the pass-catching traits that helped the Jaguars believe in his ceiling in that part of his game.
