JACKSONVILLE – He's smiling, he's working and he's focused.
Just because wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter can't participate in the Jaguars' 2026 offseason program, and just because he's still rehabilitating, doesn't mean he isn't preparing full-time for the '26 season.
He's absolutely doing that. And he's all in on the process.
"You have to be really focused," he said.
Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, spoke to the media at a local Planet Fitness event Wednesday. This came a day after he attended Day 1 of Jaguars 2026 organized team activities – and while he couldn't participate in that practice, he huddled with the Jaguars' offense throughout while holding a play sheet.
"He's been out there basically in the huddle every play," Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said of Hunter. "We've got a 12th guy. So, he's been in the huddle listening, he's locked in.
"He's done a great job."
Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner for the University of Colorado, is limited physically in the offseason program while rehabilitating a knee injury that kept him out of the last 10 regular-season games of his rookie season. While he said his knee "feels good," he didn't as of Tuesday provide a return timeframe.
"No telling," he said. "I just have to continue to work."
Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said Tuesday Hunter "has done a phenomenal job" rehabilitating.
"We're really at the mercy of the rehab and the docs in terms of what that looks like in the next steps of getting out on the grass, but really feel no pressure," Coen said.
Being limited physically doesn't mean being limited mentally – and Coen was as impressed with Hunter's "participation" Tuesday as he has been with his approach all offseason.
"He had a mic and he was listening to the calls and I'm like, 'Dude, you want to jump on there, don't you? And start talking, don't you?''' Coen said. "It was great."
Added Hunter, "Not being on the field (practicing), you can't retain a lot unless you go in there and just be focused and try to learn as much as you can every single day because you're not getting those live reps. I try to sneak in and get as much knowledge as I can from everybody."

Coen added that Hunter has spent extensive time this offseason in the Jaguars' virtual meeting room, a room in which players can get "virtual" repetitions. The Jaguars expanded the room this offseason, with Hunter – like all Jaguars players – able to utilize the room to simulate in-game repetitions.
"You can go in there and essentially play a game," Coen said. "He's going to be in there about two to three times a day throughout the weeks. He goes in there for 25-30 minutes at a time throughout the course of the day. That's accumulating a ton of reps that he's not going to be able to get until he is cleared to go."
Hunter called his time in the room "super important."
"I can't go outside and get live reps," he said. "Having that room, having them build it a lot bigger than what I expected, was great. I go in there every single day and burn out reps. I can burn out 30 or 40 reps in 15 minutes every time I go in there. I go in there and continue to try to build on my knowledge of football and continue to work."
Hunter, who played extensively as a wide receiver and cornerback as a rookie, noted with a smile that the virtual room "works both ways." He added that he was unaffected by offseason reports and speculation that he would no longer play both offense and defense moving forward.
"It didn't bother me," he said. "They've been doing that my whole career."
Coen on Tuesday not only lauded Hunter's offseason enthusiasm but also the result he has attained in strength and conditioning as he enters his second NFL season.
"I've been very pleased with Travis, his upper body, the way that looks," Coen said. "He runs outside of my office in the mornings and he looks like he has been in the weight room, so I've been very pleased."
Added Hunter with a smile, "I feel a lot stronger. It was me going in there and getting my overall body right – just getting in shape. I couldn't run. The weight room was my best friend, being able to let out some anger because I didn't have my two feet.
"I have to get back on the field. I'm excited just to get back on the field and work with the guys."
