The Jacksonville Jaguars had their first two practices of training camp today on the three new practice fields adjacent to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
In the morning, the team practiced in full pads, while the afternoon session was in shoulder pads and helmets only. A crowd estimated at 2,500 was on hand for the morning session.
³Our enthusiasm and attention were good,² said head coach Tom Coughlin. ³Execution was lacking. Handling the pads is always an experience the first time.²
Quarterback Mark Brunell added, ³It was a typical first day of training camp and there were a lot of dumb mistakes ‹ the kind that we all get out of our systems right away. But we have a lot of work to do, and we¹re all ready to get at it.²
Just prior to the morning session, the Jaguars dedicated the new practice fields in memory of Roger Ernest Ferrell Sr., the father of Dr. Ernie Ferrell, one of Jacksonville¹s leading physicians and entrepreneurs.
The team will practice at 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 on Saturday before taking Sunday off from practices.
