After changing the scheduled morning practice to a walk through, head coach Tom Coughlin put the Jacksonville Jaguars went through a full afternoon practice at Ferrell Fields, as they prepared for Friday's preseason home opener against the New York Giants.
Of the morning session, Coughlin said, "We wanted to give the players a little recovery time. We spent about an hour on the field, at about half speed. We introduced them to some first- and second-down information about the Giants. Overall, it was a good day."
Coughlin also commented on Sports Illustrated's NFL preview magazine, which predicts the Jaguars to win the Super Bowl this season. "That's quite a compliment, to be honest with you," said Coughlin. "It's a great tribute to Wayne Weaver and our organization, our players and our community. The level of expectation here has always been that high. But that is a nice compliment from Paul Zimmerman, who's been writing for a long time. His credibility is certainly there. We hope we can live up to those expectations."
Five players missed the afternoon session: C Michael Cheever (back), G/OT Jeff Novak (leg), LB Tyrone Hines (knee), DT Kelvin Pritchett (elbow) and G/OT Todd Fordham (ankle).
The team will have a closed walk-through Thursday. Friday's game will be televised on WTLV-12.
