Jaguars Get Ready for First Road Preseason Game

The Jacksonville Jaguars held two practices today at Ferrell Fields, as they get ready for their first road game of the 2001 preseason on Thursday night against the New York Giants. Kickoff from Giants Stadium is 8:00 p.m.

Typically, the Jaguars do not game plan for their second preseason game, although head coach Tom Coughlin said, "When I say we're not going to game plan, we certainly are going to spend a lot of time talking about the protections we're going to use, and we have to be concerned about protection. The Giants have an outstanding defensive line, and it's a real good challenge for our young right side."

Coughlin said he is looking for improvement on both sides of the ball in Thursday's game. "I'd like to see some of the execution look a little bit better," he said. "And I want to see the development of the young players to take a step up physically against a real good physical football team. There are a lot of objectives in terms of what we want to get done and how we want to progress as a team."

On CB Fernando Bryant, who was taken to Baptist Medical Center last night after appearing to be dehydrated, Coughlin said, "He seems to be fine. He had the flu. He was not eating or drinking, and it was a hot afternoon. We have about five guys who have the flu that really have done a good job of fighting it. The one thing they have to do is to continue to drink. Obviously, Fernando Bryant ran a little short yesterday."

The Jaguars will have a closed walk-though on Thursday and will travel to New Jersey in the evening. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN, following the "Jaguars Pregame Show" at 7:30 p.m. on WJXT Channel 4.
