JAGUARS RELEASE 18 PLAYERS TO GET DOWN TO 60-MAN LIMIT

The Jacksonville Jaguars today released 18 players to reduce their roster to the mandated 60-player limit. Released today were eight rookies, four first- year players and seven veterans who are in their second, third or fourth year in the NFL. The breakdown includes nine players on offense, eight on defense and one kicker:

WR Chad Askew, RB Randy Jordan, LB Jamie Baisley, WR James Kidd, CB Ricky Bell, G Chris Oltmanns, WR Kendrick Bullard, P Pat O Neill, LB Dana Cottrell, OT Marcus Price, TE Isaac Curtis, S Darren Studstill, S John Fisher, RB David Thompson, QB Lance Funderburk, LB Al Wallace, LB Jon Hesse, DE Jose White

Jordan, Bell, Bullard, Studstill and White were with the Jaguars in 1996, and Fisher was on the injured reserve list. Hesse was the only 1997 draft choice released; he was selected in the seventh round. Price was a 1995 draft pick. The release of Jordan leaves G/C Greg Huntington as the only member of the team s Original 10 Players¦ who is still with the team.

The Jaguars will have to reduce their roster to 53 players by 4:00 p.m. next Sunday. They can then sign up to five players for their practice squad on Monday.

Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin will be available to the media at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and the lockerroom will be open immediately afterward.
