Intensity Levels Rise Across the Board as Jaguars Minicamp Progresses

061125 Minicampservations

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars held Day 2 of their 2025 mandatory minicamp at the Miller Electric Center Wednesday.

Four Jaguars media members – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, senior reporter J.P. Shadrick and team reporter/producer Kainani Stevens – shared an observation following Wednesday's practice. Here they are:

  • Senior Writer John Oehser: Wednesday was about intensity and about the fans – and with Thursday's Day 3 practice expected to be shorter and toned down, Wednesday had the feel of the peak session of the Jaguars' '25 offseason program. And know this: The defense absolutely hit a higher peak than the offense during a Wednesday practice that featured competitive 11-on-11 and red-zone sessions. Safeties Antonio Johnson and Rayuan Lane III registered interceptions, and an effective pass rush forced multiple tipped and defensed passes – with Head Coach Liam Coen afterward praising the defense while saying he wants cleaner performances from the offense. Also: Wednesday's practice featured an overflow crowd at the MEC, marking the Jaguars' second such open-to-the-public practice this offseason. The Jaguars' new decision-makers – Coen, General Manager James Gladstone and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tony Boselli – have committed to transparency and embracing the fans/community. Wednesday marked another successful day on that front.

  • Senior Correspondent Brian Sexton: The focus this week is on Tyson Campbell and Jourdan Lewis – and occasionally Travis Hunter – but I couldn't help but notice a few other young cornerbacks fighting for a roster spot this summer. Montaric Brown has put together a few nice days and looks more comfortable playing in the new zone scheme; even Coen said so. Christian Braswell had a good summer in 2024 and hung around another year; the third-year defender had a productive day on Wednesday. I may go down swinging on this but please let me see more of De'Antre Prince; last year's fifth-round pick is long and rangy, and I think he shows good football instincts. I'm interested in this group that might be fighting for one job at the end of August. There is talent there if the Jaguars can find the right scheme and situation to unlock it.
  • Senior Reporter/ Editor J.P. Shadrick: The Jaguars practiced for about two hours at the MEC Wednesday in the second of three mandatory minicamp practices. Fans were invited to the practice, and a capacity crowd attended with energy throughout. It did feel like the defense took the upper hand Wednesday, making multiple plays in competitive situations in red-zone and two-minute drills in full team periods. Lewis knocked a jump-ball pass away from Hunter in a red-zone drill on a throw in the back left corner of the end zone that was the highlight of the day. In a scare, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. came off the field during a team drill after falling on a shoulder, but Coen said it was not major and that Thomas should be fine. I'm looking forward to training camp to really see how this offensive line plays out; it still feels like it's all up for grabs up front.
  • Team Reporter/Producer Kainani Stevens: The secondary made a big impression on the second day of mandatory minicamp. Brown continues to impress, as he has throughout the offseason program. A big scare for everyone came when Thomas left practice after landing hard on his shoulder, but the he returned to the sideline after getting checked out by the training staff. Coen confirmed that Thomas was cleared and could have returned to practice if necessary. The defense once again won the day and things got chippy at times as the competitiveness continued to grow. Wednesday very much gave off training camp vibes because of the intensity across the board.
