Coen Confident in Tight End Room Ahead of Week 6 vs. Seahawks | Wednesday Quick Hits

2025 QH THUMBNAIL

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (4-1) will play the Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday in a 2025 Week 6 game. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking to the media before practice:

Coen on Wednesday praised the team's tight ends – with veterans Hunter Long, Johnny Mundt and Quintin Morris the active players on the roster at the position.

The Jaguars on Tuesday placed tight end Brenton Strange on injured reserve with an injury sustained in a 31-28 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs Monday. The injury is not expected to be season-ending.

"I have confidence in that room to be able to continue to ascend and help us out in the pass game and the run game," Coen said.

Strange has a team-high 20 receptions for 204 yards this season, with Long catching seven passes for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Mundt has two receptions for 14 yards. Morris was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster three times earlier in the season before signing to the active roster.

"We have a great tight end room that's going to step up," Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said. "You've seen these guys be able to come in and make some big plays for us already. I've got a lot of confidence in them."

Strange also is a front-tier run-blocker critical to a Jaguars run offense that ranks fifth in the NFL at 137 yards per game.

"The way that he plays, the violence, he can pry some stuff open on his own just by playing the way he plays," Coen said. "But that's on us as coaches. We have to get creative and continue to try to put those other tight ends in matchups that are favorable. Even if they are put in a tough position, having to block maybe a big or a defensive end, I trust those guys that they can get some of that stuff done."

Lawrence said of Strange, "He means a lot to our offense, and he is a great player. He's just an important piece to our offense, so we're going to miss him. We want him to get healthy as fast as he can and take care of himself, and I know as much as we're going to miss him. No one wants to be out there more than him, so hate that for him.

"A player like Brenton, you are going to miss him. He's a really good player for us."

While Coen and Jaguars players on Wednesday spoke of moving forward, Coen did look back at one element of Monday's victory: A standing-room only crowd and an atmosphere Coen called "mental."

"We need that as much as humanly possible moving forward," Coen said. "As much as we can get the fan base and community to continue to show up similar to that, that would be a fantastic home field advantage for us moving forward."

The Jaguars took care of business under the lights, and the fans brought the energy all night long. Relive real-time reactions, big moments, and the electric atmosphere that helped fuel the win. DUUUVAL!

The Jaguars have won three consecutive games by a score or less after finishing 3-10 in such games last season.

"There is something to be said for it, just our team making plays when it matters the most," Lawrence said. "That's the way these games are in the NFL. It's going to come down to the end of the game most of the time.

"Finding a way to make a play when you need it, when you have to, in order to win a game, that says a lot about our team. Preparation equates to that a lot of times. Just feeling confident and prepared and regardless of how the game has gone, being able to move on to the next play is something that I've had to learn throughout my career.

"It's early in the year and we've been able to make some of those, but it's been cool to see from our team being able to respond."

The Jaguars lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 31-26 in Week 2 before beating the Houston Texans 17-10 in Week 3, the San Francisco 49ers 31-27 in Week 4 and the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28.

The Jaguars on Wednesday released the first of three injury reports for the week, with center Robert Hainsey not practicing after leaving Monday's game with a hamstring injury. Defensive end Travon Walker practiced limited after missing Monday's game with a wrist injury for which he underwent surgery the previous Monday.

Punter Logan Cooke missed practice Wednesday because of a personal matter not related to injury.
