Quick Hits | Coen Talks Jaguars Growth Ahead of Week 3 vs. Texans

2025 FRI QH THUMBNAIL

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Friday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (1-1) will play the Houston Texans (0-2) in a 2025 Week 3 AFC South game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday. Here's a look at Friday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media for the last time before Sunday:

Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. practiced full Friday and is expected to play Sunday, according to team's injury report.

"I'm good," Thomas said.

Thomas practiced full Wednesday and limited Thursday, with Coen on Friday speaking positively of the second-year veteran's approach after he dropped multiple passes in a 31-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday.

"He definitely had a better week in terms of the way we were trying to connect," Coen said. "Excited about his opps this weekend."

The Jaguars released their third and final injury report of the week Friday, with rookie guard Wyatt Milum ruled out for a third consecutive game to start the season with a knee injury.

Starting guard Ezra Cleveland practiced limited after missing Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury sustained against the Bengals. He was listed as questionable.

Thomas, rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten (shoulder), tight end Hunter Long (ankle), cornerback Montaric Brown (ankle) and cornerback Jarrian Jones (back) were listed Friday as having "no status." That means they should be available to play Sunday.

Tuten, Long and Jones sustained injuries against the Bengals Sunday, with Brown having been out since early training camp.

Coen on Friday said Milum "may need a little bit more time" rather than "throwing him right back into the mix." The Jaguars selected Milum in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

"He's going to have to do a little bit more on the side, do a little bit more extra individual work with the trainers, but also with the coaches, just getting his footwork back and his rhythm and his timing of his punch and just a comfort level," Coen said. "He'll continue to work through a little bit on the show team until he gets back to a position where we feel like he can go out and help us if needed."

Coen on Friday also discussed how he structures practice during the week, practicing in full pads on Thursdays and in spider – lighter – pads on Wednesdays.

Many NFL teams traditionally practice in full pads Wednesdays before moving to lighter equipment later in the week. NFL rules mandate that teams can only practice in full pads once a week.

"That was something I looked at in the offseason a little bit," Coen said. "I'd always wanted to do it, had never done it really before, but it has always been the traditional Wednesday pads, Thursday uppers and then Friday's helmets. The hardest thing of Wednesdays in the NFL at practice is the soreness; they just went through a car wreck [in the previous game]."

Coen said the idea of practicing in full pads on Thursday is to have a better practice on a day when there is more contact work such as blitz pickup.

"The third downs become a little bit more realistic because you have pads on, and they're one day removed from the soreness," Coen said. "I've always been really interested in doing it and gotten good feedback so far."

Offensive coordinator Grant Udinski this week on rookie running back LeQuint Allen Jr.'s front-line ability in pass protection:

"He will go out there and strike, and is a physical guy who's not afraid of contact by any stretch of the imagination. He's probably the opposite of afraid of contact. He almost embraces it. For a guy that size to be that physical and that aggressive is awesome to see."
