Devin Lloyd Talks Defense Playing at High Level on the Week 4 O-Zone Podcast

2025 DL OZONE THUMBNAIL

JACKSONVILLE – He's making plays and thriving in the system.

These early-season days are good ones for Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd, who in the first three games of the 2025 regular season has emerged as a front-line playmaker in an improving, playmaking defense.

The former first-round draft choice is playing at a high level – and he's not alone.

"Winning is fun," he said while joining senior writer John Oehser for this week's Week 4 2025 O-Zone Podcast. "When you're playing as one, with no miscommunications and everyone knows where they're supposed to be, we can go and fly and let it rip.

"When we're doing that and winning and having success on defense and cheering on our guys, that's when you have guys really having fun."

Lloyd, the No. 27 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, discussed multiple topics on the podcast – including a strong start to the season individually.

"There's a difference in how I feel," he said. "This is the lowest body fat since I've been in the league, and that helps me play more powerful, more explosive. I like what we have as far as how we're all playing."

Lloyd discussed, too, a Jaguars defense that ranks fifth in the NFL in points allowed, 10th in yards allowed and first in takeaways through three games.

"It starts with Camp (defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile)," he said. "We have an aggressive play-caller that allows us to be aggressive and get after people. That's fun. It starts with his mentality, the way he preaches the way we're going to play the game, which is violent and physical. He's so detailed with every little thing, and that translates to each position group.

"His mindset and the way he calls the game is really aggressive. It all starts with him, and then all the players and coaches are bought in. We have violent guys who play the game the right way. Everybody has the right mindset."

Lloyd has 15 tackles through three games with an interception, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit.

"I appreciate Camp for seeing the skillsets that I have and believing in that, and allowing me to go do that," he said. "I have to show them I can get the job done however you ask me to do it. I still feel like there are a lot of areas I can help. I have to prove that.

"The opportunity is going to come because I know they're trying to put me in positions to have success and ultimately put everybody in this defense in position to have success so the team will ultimately have success."
