O-Zone Late Night, Week 13: Jaguars 25, Titans 3

ozone week 13 titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – This was efficient, solid and significant.

It was darned impressive, too.

The Jaguars on Sunday afternoon beat the Tennessee Titans, 25-3, at Nissan Stadium – and what this day lacked in memorable highlights and/or drama, it more than made up for in importance. And this game absolutely was important.

The Jaguars (8-4), winners of their last three games, are now tied for the AFC South lead with the Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars are technically in first place because of a better conference record. They will play the Colts at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday with undisputed possession of the division lead at stake.

This Sunday was about getting to next Sunday. That's now done.

Let's get to it …

JT from Palm Coast, FL

Going into December, the Jags are 8-4 and in first place. At this point in the season, you are what you are. Plain and simple, the Jags are a good team that is getting better. Penalties need to be cleaned up, but our FIRST-PLACE JAGS are doing the damn thing! Beautiful John, beautiful!

The Jaguars have been good all season. They started 4-1 and their three losses since have been to three teams – the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans – playing at a high level. The Jaguars have had two three-game winning streaks. They are tied for first place. They have victories over five teams at or above .500 – the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs and Texans. The Jaguars are good. They have been good all season.

This was the much-ballyhooed, oft-critical, sometimes-pertinent First Email of the Game. Sometimes you eat the bear. Sometimes the bear eats you.

In my best Seinfeld impression, "What's the deal with Logan Cooke?" He isn't kicking like an All-Pro anymore.

Jaguars long snapper Ross Matisick left Sunday's game with a back issue in the first quarter, with nose tackle DaVon Hamilton snapping until halftime. Cooke, also the holder on placement kicks, was dealing with some "stuff" for a while Sunday.

Bob from Coosawatchie, SC

The Titans are having a tough season. I feel really bad for them. Hehe heehee hoo hoo hahaha!

We talk a lot here in the O-Zone about the importance of being nice. This was not nice.

James from Titusville, NJ

Have the coaches considered Logan Cooke take snaps at wide receiver? He showed some hands in that first half!

They have not considered this. Yes, Cooke did a nice job handling snaps in difficult circumstances, just as Hamilton did a nice job pressed into unfamiliar duty.

Kathy from Jacksonville

It looks like Trevor Lawrence is getting the nod! James Brown says Trevor Lawrence is the one. A fun game to watch. Fortunately, the penalties weren't costly. I don't think that today's game was the real test. None the less every one looked great!

Well, if James Brown said it …

Paul from St. Augustine, FL

Nice to see the Jaguars do what they needed to today. They now lead the AFC South. Hope they can keep it!

That's the goal. The Jaguars needed to win Sunday against a struggling team. They focused on the task at hand and accomplished what they needed to accomplish. On such victories are postseason runs built.

John from St. Augustine, FL

I asked for a beatdown. This'll do.

Jim from Jagsonville

Logan Cooke is my hero! Go Jaguars!!

This came after Cooke found himself involved in a second-half kerfuffle-y skirmish that also -featured long snapper Ross Matiscik kerfuffle-ing, too. The boys had a busy day.

Brad from The Avenues

I ask again, what is the best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you and make their house your house.

Somebody was feeling very good about themselves around these parts Sunday …

Pedal Bin and Farnborough, Hampshire, UK

Oh Mighty 'O' / King Of All Funk, I recall a fee weeks ago a wise man said the Jags would be 8-4 at the end of November. I was right!

… and in those parts, too.

Peter from Barnegat, NJ

John, when are the Jaguars going to clean up this penalty nonsense? The discipline needs to be better. That is what will lose them the big game if it continues.

The Jaguars were penalized 13 times for 98 yards and there were some that were costly, particularly some pre-snap penalties offensively. This has been an issue at times this season and remains a focus. They have been better in recent weeks, but weren't terrific there Sunday.

Amy from Jacksonville

Not a question just a statement. Sunday's win was nice. If you don't clean up the penalties we wont beat the Colts.

I'll do my best. I promise nothing.

Dave from Jacksonvillee

Wow- I really hate this team. And how is the local media so dumb? Why in the world did all of the "experts" predict a Jaguars win?? Have you not been following this team at all?!? When in the world have the Jaguars not let down in a game like this?!?

Sunday.
