Mock Draft Tracker: Brown, Kinlaw popular at No. 9

JACKSONVILLE – A potential slide potentially could be a good thing.

That's a theme in the latest round of NFL mock drafts, with many draft analysts believing the Jaguars could benefit from one of draft's top prospects perhaps slipping a few notches.

Derrick Brown, a defensive tackle from Auburn University who many analysts previously considered a likely Top 5 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, was the most popular choice to the Jaguars at No. 9 overall in this week's jaguars.com 2020 mock draft tracker.

"The Jaguars hit a home run last year with pass rusher Josh Allen (10.5 sacks as a rookie), and they hit another one with this pick," NFL Network analysts Daniel Jeremiah wrote of Brown.

Jeremiah was among four analysts projecting Brown to the Jaguars at No. 9 in this week's tracker, which included 12 mock drafts posted following last week's 2020 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

"Not only does he fill a need, but he is the best player available based on how the mock has unfolded thus far," Sports Illustrated's Kevin Hanson wrote of Brown.

Defensive tackle was the selection at No. 9 by more than half the analysts, with three projecting the Jaguars selecting South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw there.

"This is a team that struggled against the run and will likely lose Marcell Dareus (they could sign him back); they need to get big bodies up front," CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco wrote, with Ryan Wilson of CBSSports.com adding, "Kinlaw dominated the Senior Bowl back in January and his athleticism, power and speed make him the best pass-rushing interior lineman in this draft."

Two analysts projected Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah to the Jaguars at No. 9, while three offensive tackles -- Andrew Thomas of Georgia, Tristan Wirfs of Iowa and Jedrick Wills, Jr. of Alabama – were projected there.

"Given the Jaguars' propensity to pound the rock, Thomas's road-grading tendencies make him the guy for Jacksonville inside the top 10," CBSSports.com's Chris Trapasso wrote.

Cornerback continued to be the most prominent prediction for the Jaguars at No. 20 overall in Round 1, with four corners – Kristian Fulton of Louisiana State, A.J. Terrell of Clemson, C.J. Henderson of Florida and Trevon Diggs of Alabama – mocked there.

"Terrell fits the Jaguars' defensive strategy with his size and instincts and is a plug-and-play starter who will have to fill the massive hole created when Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Los Angeles Rams," Matt Miller of Bleacher Report wrote.

Two analysts projected Louisiana State linebacker Patrick Queen to the Jaguars at No. 20.

"Jags General Manager David Caldwell has always coveted explosive linebackers (while sacrificing size) during his front-office career; Queen (4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash) can fly," Jeremiah wrote.
