JACKSONVILLE – Trevor Lawrence's focus Wednesday was clear and obvious.

The Jaguars' offense by its standards had an unusual week last week – and while preparing for a second consecutive key early-season conference game, the Jaguars' starting quarterback on Wednesday said getting back to normal is paramount.

"We definitely want to play better offensively, just in general," he said.

Lawrence spoke to the media Wednesday as the AFC South-leading Jaguars (1-1) prepared to play the New England Patriots (1-1) at EverBank Stadium Sunday. Head Coach Liam Coen spoke Wednesday morning, saying of the offense:

"There's definitely a sense of urgency."

The Jaguars, after scoring at least 23 points in a franchise-record 11 consecutive games and averaging 32.9 points a game during that span, lost to the Denver Broncos, 20-13, this past Sunday. They led 13-3 early in the third quarter, but produced 56 yards on their final three drives.

"I feel confident in our group and our plan every week," Lawrence said. "I felt good about our plan last week. We just didn't necessarily execute it the best. And there's obviously some things in the plan that we will adjust moving forward, but it all ties together.

"We got to make a few more plays and it's not perfect every Sunday. I feel confident in our group and our prep that we'll be ready to go as we move forward."

Wide receiver Parker Washington also discussed the week's urgency.

"That's part of the response, still being us and coming out there and starting fast," Washington said. "I feel like we'll do a good job of that."

Washington caught seven passes for 98 yards Sunday, with Coen on Wednesday speaking of the need to "spread the wealth" in a versatile, talented receiving corps.

"We have to do a better job getting everybody involved and that's obviously me as a part of that and continuing to give guys opportunities," Lawrence said. "The offense is going to run through everyone at some point. It's not a one-man show. And I think everyone on our team knows that."

Washington leads the Jaguars through two games with 12 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown, with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. catching six passes for 80 yards and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers catching three passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Brenton Strange has four receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown.

"Just getting those guys some more opportunities, especially early on in the game and try to get everybody a little bit more into the rhythm," Coen said. "You dial some stuff up early and it works. You dial some stuff up later and it doesn't. Typically, the ball where it goes where it does.

"We have to be able to continue to progress throughout but also have enough time to do so. It all kind of works hand in hand."

Coen, as he did Monday, emphasized the need to practice well after saying the Jaguars' practices last week were short of their standard.

"It doesn't always correlate, but you try to stay consistent and remain consistent that practice performance equals game reality," Coen said. "That's something we need to be better at throughout the course of the week. We have to have higher standards with how we practice.

"We have to make plays in practice: Pitch and catch, make good plays, sustain blocks longer, rush and cover better … all that stuff has to improve this week."

Coen on Wednesday discussed cornerback Travis Hunter's usage in the first two games and moving forward, calling it a "balance." Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, has played 66 defensive plays (58.41 percent of snaps) at cornerback this season and 10 plays at receiver (8.62 percent of snaps). He had one reception for eight yards in a Week 1 victory over Cleveland and has five tackles with a pass defensed defensively. "It's a balancing act you're continuously working through," Coen said. "You're trying to get into a flow whether it's on offense or defense." Hunter played seven games as a rookie before a season-ending knee injury, then missed the offseason program before returning for the beginning of 2026 Training Camp. "It definitely has some form of an effect," Coen said. "You can walkthrough. You can do a million things in the walkthrough room and meeting-room settings, but he missed a lot of pitching and catching. He missed a lot of chemistry with the quarterback. We have to look at everything we're doing, touches, targets – all that stuff. He's a part of that, just like all those other guys."
