JACKSONVILLE – Correspondent John Shipley examines five key plays from the Jaguars’ 35-6 victory over the New England Patriots in a 2026 Week 3 game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville Sunday

1.Hunter's big play. Wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter made one of his biggest plays as a member of the Jaguars near the end of the first half Sunday. With the Patriots facing third-and-goal from the 2-yard line, the Patriots faked a handoff and sent quarterback Drake Maye on the move outside of the pocket. The third-year veteran threw to the back of the end zone, with Hunter contorting his body in the air to adjust to Maye's pass for Hunter's first NFL interception – a play that allowed the Jaguars to lead 14-3 at halftime. "Huge play, critical moment, critical situation," Head Coach Liam Coen called it, with Hunter adding, "We get those plays in practice. The coach did a great job scheming it up for us. He called the perfect call for us. We all talked and we communicated on my side of the ball and I just made it happen." Hunter got his biggest workload of the season at cornerback Sunday, with the late first-half interception one of the game's biggest and most-defining plays. "He tried me a couple of times," Hunter said. "I was just in there saying, 'I'm getting too close to the ball, I got to get me one.' We just continued to do what the coaches schemed up for us, and we just played our best ball today."

2.Fuuuuuuumble. The Jaguars got their first big play Sunday with just under 4:00 left in the first quarter. The Patriots were driving on the ground and through the air, but on first-and-10 from the Jaguars 34, Maye – last season's NFL Most Valuable Player runner-up – had the ball simply fall out of his hands as he started his windup, with Jaguars nose tackle DaVon Hamilton recovering. This was one of the highlights on a dominant day for Hamilton, who also recorded a sack.

3.Cameron again. Playing at EverBank Stadium has been quite good to Jaguars rookie wide receiver Josh Cameron. A sixth-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, Cameron's 12-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Trevor Lawrence on second-and-10 capped a 10-play, 62-yard drive and gave the Jaguars a 7-0 lead with 13:25 remaining in the second quarter. The rookie earned plenty of playing time in Week 3 and the Jaguars seemed more than comfortable adding to his responsibility Sunday. Cameron has impressed since he stepped onto the practice field in the spring, and this touchdown was just another example of the trust he already has earned from Lawrence and the coaches.

4.P-Dub does P-Dub things. The Jaguars had a chance to all but secure victory after New England missed a third-quarter field goal, and they did exactly that – going to wide receiver Parker Washington on two consecutive plays. The first, a red-zone touchdown pass from Lawrence for which Washington leaped high and high-pointed the reception over the head of a Patriots defensive back, was negated to an offensive penalty. Lawrence threw again to Washington on the ensuing play, with the fourth-year receiver making a catch that might have been more impressive than the first – securing a 17-yard touchdown with a "pure-hands catch" on a ball thrown just a bit off the ground. The touchdown capped a 15-play, 72-yard drive and gave the Jaguars a 21-3 lead with 1:08 remaining in the third quarter. "I wasn't even thinking I was about to get it, but run every route to win, and Trevor trusted me to cross face and make the play, and we made the play," Washington said.

5.Jones secures the victory. The Jaguars had already forced two critical takeaways by the time they took a 21-3 lead, and all they needed at that point was for someone to act as the closer. Enter cornerback Jarrian Jones, who essentially secured the victory on the first offensive play after Washington's touchdown. Jones, a third-year veteran, had a beautiful coverage snap against Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams on which he ran the route for the receiver, giving Jones a chance to make a break on the ball once Maye threw it in his direction. "I just had to win," Jones said. Jones' interception marked the Jaguars' third takeaway Sunday, with running back Chris Rodriguez Jr.'s 5-yard touchdown run on the ensuing play giving the Jaguars a 28-3 lead. "It was great," Hunter said of Jones' interception. "I was on the sideline, so I had to strap on my helmet to make sure I didn't get a flag, but I had to go celebrate with him."
