Good to get away from football

Wednesday was a nice, quick day for us. Coach Coughlin realized that we had a lot of people injured and he cut practice down on Wednesday. He made it like a Friday practice and we were in and out. We went back to fundamentals realizing that, for us to make this stretch run, we need to get back to fundamentals and the little things. That was our Wednesday.

We did practice on Thursday and we put the pads on. We did that to get a little of the physical aspect back, which we kind of needed. Wednesday we didn't have our pads on, but Thursday we put the pads on and banged around a little bit. That was good because that reminded us not to forget about football when we leave. We had a great practice on Thursday and everybody was probably ready to get out of here. We knew it was going to be a shorter practice and guys were scheduling their flights to get out. We were hustling and just having fun. We needed this bye week! We had a lot of people injured. Let's knock on wood that everybody stays healthy this second half of the season so we can put our original team from training camp out on the field. We need to be out there together and make this run these next seven games. Everybody realizes that we have to take them one at a time and if we can do that let's see what can happen at the end. On Wednesday and Thursday, I did my work, now flying home Thursday night I was totally away from football. It was time to go home and get some relaxation.

It was nice to get back to family and friends and when I woke up Friday in Houston it was raining. Maybe the rain helped me out because I just chilled. That slowed me down from ripping and running, going to see this person or that person, trying to see everybody in one day. I just kind of relaxed at my house and chilled. I got the chance to meet with a couple of people who I needed to see that evening. After that, I came back home and went to sleep.

I went to the mall and I saw some people from high school and they knew who I was. Walking through the mall with my wife, some people knew who I was, but some did a double-take and I kept walking. The people would say, "That looks like Keenan McCardell," and I just laughed. On Saturday, some people came up and asked, "Are you Keenan?" but it was nothing like it is here. I was able to do my shopping, but in Jacksonville people know you and they see your face all the time. I didn't pick up any new suits. I was shopping for my little girl. I was trying to get some Christmas shopping done and get that out of the way. I don't like to be in the mall during Christmas, because it gets real hectic.

I went to church on Sunday with my family. I got the chance to see the members of my church and my pastor, which was good. After church, I had dinner with my cousin and got on a plane. It was a real slow day. I left Houston around nine p.m. and got in here around 12:45 a.m., and that was my off week.

We were on the field early in the morning and that was good because coach wanted to get us in and out. I think it was good for that reason and to get us back into football. When I was growing up, we said that when you let three days go between your workouts, you're out of shape. It was good to get back into football shape, if you hadn't done anything over the weekend. We knocked some of the rust off and we didn't have much rust, but it was just to get your mind ready for football again. After practice on Mondays, I go home and relax and then get ready for my television show. I take about 20 minutes to figure out what I'm going to say and have a great show. After football, I wouldn't mind working in television. It would be great, but you never know. It depends on who likes you and who wants you. It's something I'm always looking into, because I always leave my doors open, but I love playing football.
