Jaguars Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

hh-camp-26

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Jaguars kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 15 with the first of two Somos DUUUVAL Youth Football Camps, presented by Ticketmaster. Jaguars QB Joey Aguilar, WR Trebor Peña and RB Chris Rodriguez Jr., each of Hispanic heritage, surprised students from BridgePrep Academy with a youth football camp. The following week, Jaguars WRs Trebor Peña and Michael Wortham participated in the second camp on Sept. 22 with Englewood Elementary School students. Students at both schools received t-shirts and Jaguars swag, and each school received an equipment donation, thanks to Ticketmaster.

Also on Sept. 22, in collaboration with Whataburger and READ USA, Jaguars QB Joey Aguilar visited the Global Leadership Academy Discovery Campus for a Somos DUUUVAL-themed Literacy Locker Room with special guests Jaxson de Ville and members of THE ROAR. Aguilar read to the kindergarten through second grade students and spoke about the importance of reading, and were gifted books to add to their at-home libraries, Jaguars swag, and a free meal from Whataburger.

At the Sept. 27 Jaguars vs. New England Patriots game , the Jaguars proudly recognized our 2026 Latino Youth Honors Nominees, Lorena Clutter with The Bolles School, and Enrique Ordoñez with Nease High School. The Jaguars selected the two students for their contributions in athletics, leadership, academics and service. Clutter and Ordoñez will be considered by the NFL for the overall Latino Youth Honors awardees from among the 64 total nominees – 32 males and 32 females from all NFL clubs.

Clutter, a senior flag football wide receiver and linebacker, is involved in the Latino community by her club at school called BLUE, and she recently competed in a statewide Spanish competition in Orlando where she had her best finish to date. Her club works to bring awareness to poverty in third-world Hispanic countries. Along with her club and sister, Clutter organizes a clothing drive every year to collect clothes to send to Peru and the Dominican Republic.

Senior running back Ordoñez's connection to the Latino culture is central to his identity as a student-athlete and young leader in North Florida. As the son of Mexican immigrants, he was raised with the value of hard work, humility, and perseverance. Through these values along with respect for others, Ordoñez  leads the way in the classroom, on the field and in the community. He takes pride in representing his heritage and understands that his success creates visibility for younger students like him.

In addition to the Somos DUUUVAL Camps and Literacy Locker Room, the Jaguars Foundation was a proud supporter of the annual Duval County Public Schools Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest where students within the county had the opportunity to submit an essay about an influential Hispanic person making an impact in our community. Aoife Lewis won the elementary school contest, Shannialia Perez Montero won the middle school contest, and Nicole Jiang won the high school contest. All three recipients were recognized on Oct. 2 and received Jaguars swag and custom jerseys.
