The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed five players from the NFL
Europe League who recently finished their season. G Tom Claro,
WR Thabiti Davis, CB Alonzo Hampton, DT Brad Keeney and CB
Tristian Moss will not count against the Jaguars' roster limit until the
first roster reduction. Length and terms of the contracts are not
disclosed.
Claro, 24, played for the Barcelona Dragons this spring. The 6-5,
300-pound Claro was in training camp with the Arizona Cardinals in
1996 and the New England Patriots in 1997. He was a three-time
all-Patriot League selection for Holy Cross.
Davis, 24, also played for the Barcelona Dragons and was second
on the team with 32 catches for 359 yards. The 6-3, 211-pound
Davis was in training camp with the Carolina Panthers in 1998. He
is Wake Forest's second all-time leader in receptions with 161 for
1,865 yards and 12 touchdowns in 44 consecutive games played.
Hampton, 25, played for the World Bowl Champion Frankfurt
Galaxy. The 5-11, 190-pound Hampton was in training camp with
the Seattle Seahawks in 1997. He was a four-year letterman and
three-year starter at Northeast Louisiana.
Keeney, 25, played for the Scottish Claymores this spring. The 6-3,
290 -pound Keeney was signed as a rookie free agent by Green
Bay in 1996, was waived in training camp, and spent time on the
practice squad with Cincinnati and the New York Jets, seeing time
on the active roster for one game with the Jets. He was in the
Atlanta Falcons training camp in 1997 and the New York Giants
training camp in 1998. He was also on the practice squad with the
Detroit Lions in 1998. He was an NCAA I-AA All-American at
The Citadel.
Moss, 26, played for the Barcelona Dragons. The 5-10, 175-pound
Moss was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996 and
was a two-year starter at Western Michigan University.
The Jaguars now have their limit of 87 players on their roster, with
first-round draft choice Fernando Bryant the only player unsigned.
All players report for training camp on July 29, with the first
practice being held on July 30.
