Operate and Execute | Experts' Final Analysis Before Week 18 vs. Titans

WK18 FINAL ANALYSIS

JACKSONVILLE – Each week during the 2025 season, Jaguars "experts" – Frank Frangie, Jeff Lageman, Brent Martineau, John Oehser, Brian Sexton, J.P. Shadrick and Kainani Stevens – will analyze the following day's Jaguars matchup.

Up this week:

Frank Frangie, Radio Voice of the Jaguars

  • The Jaguars will win if: They continue to play with the effort and productivity they have for the past two months. But this game is different. This is the Jags' biggest rival and it is a chance to clinch a division title for only the fifth time in the team's 31-year history. So much is on the line. The Jags can't allow the tension and emotion of that to overwhelm them. Just keep doing what you do, treat it like just the next game. Don't be asleep at the wheel because the Titans have only won three games, and don't get caught up in the chippiness that can come with playing a rival. And block Simmons, one of the best defensive tackles in the sport.
  • The Titans will win if: They play their best game of the year, if running back Tony Pollard rushes for over 100 yards and they shorten the game, getting it to the fourth quarter. They need a big splash early to possibly put some doubts in the minds of a home-standing, double-digit favorite.
  • As Frangie sees it: The Jags have the better team, they know the stakes, and they have been terrific at not allowing environment or circumstance affect their play. They are better than the Titans and I think they will beat the Titans and win the AFC South.

Brent Martineau, Action Sports Jax Sports Director

  • The Jaguars will win if: They hit their layups. The Jaguars are a much better team, but they need to clean up some areas from last week. The Jaguars can win every area of this game in a matchup so if they avoid doing multiple things uncharacteristically, they should win the AFC South.
  • The Titans will win if: They produce points defensively and on special teams. Tennessee is overmatched overall, but games change on turnovers and unusual scores. The Titans will need all that to happen to pull off a season-ending upset.
  • As Martineau sees it: I thought last week was going to be more difficult than people thought and it turned out that way. The then-eliminated Jaguars beat contending Indianapolis in a game like this in Trevor Lawrence 2021 rookie season, then lost a chance to win the AFC South when it lost to then-eliminated Tennessee in 2023. I think this team has been different and being home in a game like this should make a difference for the Jaguars. I think the Jaguars will dominate the game and throw EverBank Stadium into celebration mode as AFC South Champs with a 37-17 victory.

John Oehser, jaguars.com senior writer

  • The Jaguars will win if: They continue limiting the run defensively – and Lawrence stays hot and confident offensively. Stopping the run will allow them to pressure Ward, and Lawrence must play well against a Titans defense capable of limiting the Jaguars' running game.
  • The Titans will win if: Ward can hit big plays and limit mistakes – and if the Titans' defense can force multiple turnovers. Ward has improved in recent weeks and will be dangerous if he can turn that improvement into a big early touchdown or two. The Titans' defense is good enough on the defensive interior to force the Jaguars into difficult situations offensively.
  • As Oehser sees it: This could be a tough matchup for the Jaguars because the Titans are playing better in recent weeks – and because their defensive interior is good enough to make the Jaguars' offense one-dimensional. But the Jaguars are playing well and playing at home, and they're good enough to turn a tight game at halftime into a solid second-half victory – and an AFC South championship.

Brian Sexton, jaguars.com senior correspondent

  • The Jaguars will win if: They protect quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Titans took the run away in a 25-3 Jaguars victory in Week 13, holding Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. and Co. to 70 yards rushing. Lawrence took the Titans apart with his arm. He will need the time against Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and defensive end Arden Key to do it again. Plus, Lawrence has been hit 22 times the last two games. If Lawrence is unhurried, the Jaguars will win easily.
  • The Titans will win if: The Jaguars turn the ball over and give Titans quarterback Cam Ward extra possessions. He has thrown eight touchdowns and one interception over the last four games and the Titans have won two of those. The more opportunities he has, the greater chance the Titans have to keep the game close and give him a chance to win it.
  • As Sexton sees it: There is no way the Jaguars will give the AFC South away twice in the last three years. The Titans eliminated the Jaguars from AFC South contention with a 28-20 victory over the Jaguars in Nashville in the 2023 regular-season finale, and there are enough Jaguars players who were there who are still here. The Jaguars will claim the division title and secure a home playoff game with a big victory over the Titans.

J.P. Shadrick, jaguars.com senior reporter

  • The Jaguars will win if: They hang on to the ball, and handle Simmons. He is a problem on the interior, especially in the pass-rush game. If the Jaguars' offense can stay on schedule, ahead of the chains, they should be able to grind out another win. A few early scores should get the Titans looking forward to their trip to Cancun next week. Put them away early.
  • The Titans will win if: They get a couple of takeaways, or a game-changing special teams return from Pro Bowl returner Chimere Dike. The Jaguars' defense shut down the Titans' offense last time out, but Dike can flip a game on his own. I'd be stunned if they even let him touch the football. Kickoffs out of the back of the end zone and punts to the boundaries would eliminate it altogether. The Jags can stop the run pretty much whoever is carrying it on the other side, and I have faith in the Jags defense against Ward.
  • As Shadrick sees it: The Titans have played better lately, but the Jaguars are the much better team overall. They must operate and execute at the high level they know how to do. It will take 60 minutes of clean, complementary football, but the Jaguars are on the verge of their fifth division title in 31 seasons.

Kainani Stevens, Jaguars team reporter

  • The Jaguars will win if: They keep it clean and avoid silly mistakes. The Jags had a season-high 13 penalties the last time they played Tennessee and the Jags can't afford to get into any chippy situations with the postseason around the corner.
  • The Titans will win if: Play confident and fearless in their season finale. They will relish the role of playing spoiler to a divisional rival. If they can score early and gain some momentum, then they have the chance to keep things competitive.
  • As Stevens sees it: The Jaguars will win the game and the AFC South title for the first time since 2022. The hats, T-Shirts and home playoff game will be well-earned by Head Coach Liam Coen and Co. in their first season here in Jacksonville.
