Matiscik on Being Named to Pro Bowl: "We Have Bigger Goals…"

WED QUICK HITS WK17

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars on Wednesday practiced at the Miller Electric Center.

The Jaguars (11-4) will play the Indianapolis Colts (8-7) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., Sunday in a 2025 Week 17 game. A look at Wednesday around the Jaguars – with Head Coach Liam Coen speaking to the media before practice and quarterback Trevor Lawrence speaking to the media after practice:

Ross Matiscik has received this honor before. It's a little cooler this time.

Matiscik, the Jaguars' sixth-year veteran long snapper, on Tuesday was named to the Pro Bowl for a third consecutive season. But this will be his first time going on a playoff team – and Matiscik on Wednesday said that makes it more special.

"In years past, you're kind of bummed about the season, but you get to go to the Pro Bowl and you kind of look forward to that," Matiscik said. "This year, we have bigger goals. We have our minds set on bigger things.

"It's cool and all, but I hope I can't make it. I hope I'm in San Fran for another reason."

The 2026 Pro Bowl Games will be held in San Francisco, Cal., February 3 as part of the week leading to Super Bowl LX, which will be played on February 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Cal.

"Shout out to Ross," Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen said. "He deserves it."

An already motivated team may have a little more motivation now.

Matiscik was the lone Jaguars player named to the Pro Bowl Games, with four teammates named as alternates: Linebacker Devin Lloyd, running back Travis Etienne Jr., wide receiver/punt returner Parker Washington and quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

"We can't control those decisions, and we have a lot of players that are very prideful and have done some really cool things," Head Coach Liam Coen said. "To be 11-4 and have one, that just speaks volumes."

Lloyd leads all NFL linebackers with five interceptions.

"He's a guy that's deserving of every award a linebacker should have," Hines-Allen said. "Nobody's doing what he's done. It goes back to the same old same old thing we've been experiencing. It's expected, but at the end of the day, he's going to be an All-Pro."

Said Lloyd, "As a competitor, you want to get that nod, but at the end of the day we're in a great opportunity to play in the real bowl. For us, it's about attacking the week-to-week process and doing what we have to do to prolong the season to get to where we want to go."

Etienne has seven touchdowns rushing with six receptions this season, Washington has two punt returns for touchdowns and Lawrence has 26 touchdowns passing with seven rushing this season.

"It is what it is," Lawrence said. "I'm not surprised necessarily that we only have one based on the whole noise around our season. That's not why you play. It's great to get acknowledged and we're happy for Ross, but it's not why you play.

"I'm sure guys feel certain ways about it. You do take pride in your play. At the end of the day, you're here to win games and we've been able to do that recently pretty well. We just have to continue to keep that our main focus. The rest will take care of itself."

Sunday marks the second game between the Colts and Jaguars in four weeks, with the Jaguars beating the Colts 36-19 at EverBank Stadium in Week 13. The timing means studying more from that matchup than might normally be the case when preparing for Sunday.

"You have two games in between," Coen said. "You're usually working off at least a four-game initial break and you're watching everything from the season. We're right in the break when you're showing players your cutups and you're showing them, 'OK, these are the third-down coverages, red zone, whatever, we're in those cutups.' So, they're constantly seeing that game."

The Jaguars host the Tennessee Titans in Week 18 at EverBank Stadium (date TBD). The team will close out the regular season in their Prowler throwback uniforms.

The Jaguars on Wednesday released the first of three injury reports for the week – with starting center Robert Hainsey (groin), starting guard Patrick Mekari (back) and starting nickel corner Jourdan Lewis (foot) among five players missing practice.

All three sustained injuries in a victory over the Denver Broncos this past Sunday, with rookie defensive end Danny Striggow – who missed the Denver game with an ankle injury – also out of practice Wednesday along with starting cornerback Greg Newsome II (shoulder/personal).

Five Jaguars players practiced limited Wednesday: Running back Bhayshul Tuten (finger), wide receiver Tim Patrick (foot), starting left guard Ezra Cleveland (shoulder), rookie linebacker Jalen McLeod (ankle) and starting cornerback Montaric Brown (neck). The Jaguars opened McLeod's 21-day window to return from injured reserve last week.

Defensive end Travon Walker (knee) and defensive tackle Arik Armstead (finger) practiced full Wednesday.
