JACKSONVILLE – Senior writer John Oehser examines the third quarter – Weeks 11-14 – of the Jaguars' 2025 AFC South Championship season:
Week 11: Jaguars 35, Los Angeles Chargers 6
- Site: EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville
- What happened: Running back Travis Etienne Jr. rushed for two touchdowns, the defense dominated and the Jaguars put a difficult loss – and difficult week – in the rear view with a physical, convincing victory over the playoff-contending Chargers. The Jaguars outgained the Chargers 345-135 with a 30-8 first-downs advantage. The Jaguars finished the game with a 37:55-22:05 time-of-possession advantage and held the Chargers without a touchdown, registering three sacks and an interception.
- Key play: This game wasn't as much about huge plays for the Jaguars as consistent running, dominant defense and impressive drives. One such drive spanned the third and fourth quarters. The Jaguars entered that stretch having scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions and leading by 15 points. They took possession at their 24-yard line with a chance to effectively end the game. They responded by driving 76 yards on 16 plays, taking a 28-6 lead with 11:38 remaining when quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed one yard to wide receiver Tim Patrick.
- Notable: The Jaguars entered the game having lost three of four games – and having lost a 19-point fourth-quarter lead in a road loss to the Houston Texans the week before.
- Quoting Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen: "We play better pissed off. We've talked about edge for a long time now. When we have an edge and we play as a team and it's about the team all the time, good things happen typically for us. I am proud of the response, for sure."
- Quoting running back Bhayshul Tuten: "We just had to get the bad taste out of our mouth. We harped on it all week. Throughout the week, practice was quiet. A lot of people were locked in. A lot of people know what this game was for us. We had to get our mojo back and I feel like we definitely did today."
- Tracking the South: Indianapolis Colts (8-2), Jaguars (6-4), Houston Texans (5-5), Tennessee Titans (1-9).
Week 12: Jaguars 27, Arizona Cardinals 24 (OT)
- Site: State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
- What happened: Lawrence threw three touchdown passes to counter four turnovers and the Jaguars' defense made its biggest stop at the biggest moment in a stop-and-start, hold-your-breath, late-November victory. Lawrence threw touchdown passes in the first, third and fourth quarters – and his 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Parker Washington with 3:47 remaining gave the Jaguars a 27-24 lead. Lawrence also completed touchdown passes to Etienne and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.
- Key play: Kicker Cam Little's 52-yard field goal with 7:46 remaining in overtime gave the Jaguars their final lead. The Cardinals drove to the Jaguars 42 on the ensuing possession, with safety Andrew Wingard breaking up Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett's deep pass to wide receiver Xavier Weaver on fourth-and-4 to end the game.
- Notable: The Jaguars' second consecutive victory after three losses in four games pulled them to within a game of first place in the AFC South. The Jaguars also improved to 2-0 in overtime games in 2025.
- Quoting Coen: "We're not going to apologize for winning around here. You always feel multiple emotions after a game; winning is what matters. Guys stepped up, nobody flinched, nobody was walking around with their head down and frustrated. You've got to keep playing. That's been the message for the last few weeks. And these guys closed it out when we needed it."
- Quoting Lawrence: "It's a week-to-week league. All these games are going to be close. You just have to find a way to finish. It doesn't matter what happened the first three quarters of the game, you just got to find a way to win it in the fourth. We're learning that. We're doing a good job of that and we just have to keep doing it."
- Tracking the South: Indianapolis Colts (8-3), Jaguars (7-4), Houston Texans (6-5), Tennessee Titans (1-10).
Week 13: Jaguars 25, Tennessee Titans 3
- Site: Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
- What happened: Lawrence threw two touchdowns and an improving defense turned in a suffocating performance as the surging Jaguars pulled away for their third consecutive victory. Lawrence threw first-half touchdown passes to Meyers and tight end Brenton Strange, with Little connecting on the final play of the second quarter to give the Jaguars an 18-3 halftime lead. The Jaguars outgained the Titans, 272-188, and had 20 first downs to 11 for Tennessee.
- Key play: The Jaguars led 7-3 lead when rookie running back LeQuint Allen Jr. made a play that helped them take a double-digit lead. On the kickoff after the Jaguars' first touchdown, Allen tackled Titans returner Chimere Dike and forced a fumble that Allen recovered at the Titans 35. Lawrence capped the ensuing drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Strange for a 15-3 lead with 14:54 remaining in the half.
- Notable: This was the Jaguars' sixth victory over the Titans in the team's last seven meetings, with defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton filling in as a long snapper for injured long snapper Ross Matiscik in the first half.
- Quoting Lawrence: "They have talent. We have to improve and play better moving forward. We knew it was going to be a challenge and we just came out and executed."
- Quoting Coen: "We're giving ourselves an opportunity to play meaningful games in November and December, and that's ultimately all you can ask for in this league. The rest of the way, you've got competitive, meaningful football games. That an important thing for us to go through as a team in Year 1, to have the opportunity to do those things and, and to earn that, I think is important for us to be able to continue to move forward as a team."
- Tracking the South: Indianapolis Colts (8-4), Jaguars (8-4), Houston Texans (7-5), Tennessee Titans (1-11).
Week 14: Jaguars 36, Indianapolis Colts 19
- Site: EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
- What happened: Etienne rushed for two touchdowns, Lawrence threw two more and the defense turned in another front-line performance – and the Jaguars took sole possession of first place in the AFC South with a dominant, impressive victory. Lawrence threw touchdown passes to Meyers in the first quarter and wide receiver Tim Patrick in the second.
- Key play: Colts quarterback Daniel Jones threw short over the middle to wide receiver Michael Pittman on first-and-10 from the Colts 20, with linebacker Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd intercepting and returning it to the Colts 21. Lawrence threw 18 yards to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., with Etienne's 3-yard run giving the Jaguars a 7-0 lead with 10:39 remaining in the first quarter.
- Notable: The Jaguars won their fourth consecutive game and their 11th consecutive home game against the Colts.
- Quoting Etienne: "No one likes us except for us. We're not going to get the respect. We kind of don't even care. As long as we know we have a tight locker room, we can go out and take it. There's no better feeling than being disrespected and having an extra chip on your shoulder and playing with an extra edge. It gives you extra motivation each and every Sunday. No one's going to just paint us as the person to go win it all. We have to go out there and take it and I love that."
- Quoting Lawrence: "We know it doesn't really matter what anyone says on the outside, but you use all that as fuel. We all feel like we're a really good team and probably don't get the credit we deserve. Everybody talks about every other team. Even in our own division, it's all these other teams that are going to go win the division and do all these things. Nobody really cares about the Jags, which is fine. It's just how it is. We'll use that as a chip on our shoulder and keep playing."
- Tracking the South: Jaguars (9-4), Houston Texans (8-5), Indianapolis Colts (8-5), Tennessee Titans (2-11).
