Rookie S Jalen Huskey on Jaguars' 2026 Offseason Program: "I Plan to Come Here and Be Great…"

JACKSONVILLE – He's versatile and very, very motivated.

Those traits helped Jaguars rookie safety Jalen Huskey fulfill a lifelong dream of getting to the NFL, and they should help him continue that dream moving forward.

"I play with a chip on my shoulder," he said. "I feel like my entire life I've been a little overlooked or a little overshadowed – and I can show that I can produce too."

Huskey, a third-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft – the No. 100 selection overall and the fourth player drafted by the Jaguars in '26 – seems to be exactly where he is meant to be. He spent his 23rd birthday on the practice field at the Miller Electric Center Saturday, wrapping up the third and final day of 2026 Rookie Minicamp for the Jaguars' draft selections and undrafted free agents.

Huskey has the fiery play style and personality that fits the franchise, Head Coach Liam Coen and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.

"At every single stop I produced, and it's not going to stop because I'm in the NFL," he said. "I plan to come here and be a great football player."

Huskey, like many other Jaguars selections in the past two drafts, had a fascinating college career. A 2025 second-team All-Big Ten selection last season, Huskey was tied for fourth in the Big Ten and 16th nationally with four interceptions in 12 games.

Huskey (6-feet-2 201 pounds) played 2024-2025 at Maryland and 2022-2023 at Bowling Green. He finished his collegiate career with 11 interceptions and 10 passes defensed, with four interceptions in 2023 when he was a first-team All-MAC selection at Bowling Green.

He began his collegiate career at cornerback before switching to safety at Maryland, with the cornerback-to-safety convert a popular trend for the Jaguars. Second-year veteran Caleb Ransaw was a collegiate cornerback who is expected to be a full-time NFL safety, with veteran safety Eric Murray playing cornerback at Minnesota before transitioning to safety in the NFL.

"You look at obviously some of the trends in the NFL and some of those heavier groupings," Coen said. "What you have to combat that with is making decisions whether you're going to go heavier at linebacker and go bigger people, or are you investing a little bit more in some of the bigger skill players on defense?

"That big skill that can play maybe at the safety position, drop down to the big nickel, play some dime WILL, that's important to us. It has been important to us really before all these trends kind of started, was that multiplicity and ability to play different positions.

"It also helps you on special teams when you have big, longer athletes at [defensive back] that can match up with whether it be tight ends, linebacker-type bodies on special teams, is really important."

For Huskey, the cornerback experience gives him a different lens from which to view the game, with his versatility meaning he has extensive experience covering every offensive skill position.

"I think just being able to understand route concepts inside/out, and then just being able to read receivers and be confident," Huskey said. "I'm super confident whether I'm guarding a tight end or receiver or even a running back. It doesn't really matter to me."

Huskey and the Jaguars seem a good match. He provides the passion and versatility they deem as key traits within the "Jaguars DNA" and he provides them long-term flexibility.

This was Huskey's dream. He made it happen, and now the Jaguars are starting to see how.
