JACKSONVILLE – Liam Coen liked what he saw. A lot.
The Jaguars rolled through Week 1 with plenty of big plays and plenty of positives, leaving the first Sunday of the 2026 regular season with a 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Stadium – and leaving plenty for Coen to be happy about.
"The guys came out and tried to do what we asked them to do in terms of starting fast, played some complementary football," Coen said Monday during his "day after" media availability at the Miller Electric Center.
There are a lot of reasons for the Jaguars to feel good after the first Sunday of the '26 season. Sunday marked their ninth consecutive regular-season victory, the NFL's second-longest active such streak and the second-longest in franchise history.
The Jaguars won 11 consecutive games in the 1999 regular season.
A strong defense was key to extending the current streak, with the Jaguars – who led the NFL in rushing defense while finishing second in takeaways last season – holding the Browns to 87 yards rushing while registering five sacks and forcing two turnovers.
"They have been preaching last year was last year," Jaguars linebacker Ventrell Miller said. "We have got to come out and try to do the same thing. That's the way we practice, how we prepare for the game. Still the same mindset: Try to stop the run, create takeaways, limit big plays, but just coming out to do it this year again."
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdown passes Sunday, with the Jaguars scoring on their first four drives and six of their first seven. The four touchdown passes went to four different receivers: Wide receiver Josh Cameron, wide receiver Parker Washington, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and tight end Brenton Strange.
"That's how football should be played," Meyers said Monday. "Everybody eat. It's hard when there's one person out there trying to do everything and people know who to focus on. Everybody eating, that keeps us unpredictable."
Added Meyers, "Everybody was happy for everybody who scored, everybody who touched the ball, everybody who played. It was just cool just to see how much the guys really rock with each other. So, it's cool."
Lawrence completed passes to nine different receivers, with three backs – starter Bhayshul Tuten (66 yards, 15 carries), Ameer Abdullah (22 yards, four carries) and Chris Rodriguez Jr. (23 yards, six carries) – key to a running offense that produced 126 yards on 32 carries.
"It truly takes all 11 in this offense to run the football, and I think our guys did a nice job," Coen said.
Coen noted that Tuten "ran his tail off" Sunday, adding that the second-year veteran "ran hard" in his first career start.
"I don't think he missed many reads personally," Coen said. "I thought he ran through arm tackles a ton."

Right tackle Cole Van Lanen returned to the lineup Sunday after missing much of preseason and training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Van Lanen, who sustained a knee injury in the 2025 regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans on January 4, started and played the entire first half Sunday. He played 36 total plays before being replaced by Walker Little in the second half. "He did well," Coen said of Van Lanen. "He was confident, held his own, got the work that we wanted him to get. Knowing that he hasn't played a ton, the plan really was if he was going to be able to go, that we would try to just limit it to a half and get him that work." Coen on Monday also updated the injury status of second-year defensive end B.J. Green, who left the game with an elbow injury in the first half Sunday and did not return. Coen said that undrafted rookie defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. will likely be active in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos because "it's probably going to be a little bit" before Green returns.

Coen on rookie left guard Emmanuel Pregnon, who made his first career NFL start Sunday: "He did some really good things in pass pro specifically. When he was one-on-one in pass protection, he did a phenomenal job of sitting down, anchoring in pass pro. He moved some people at the point of attack, had a couple things at the second level, and a few pulls that got a little bit jacked up but I thought he played really well for his first career start."
