JACKSONVILLE – This was a little lighter, and that was by design.
The Jaguars are a week into 2016 Training Camp, with the lone scrimmage of '16 camp scheduled for Friday, so Day 7 was a bit shorter and a little less strenuous.
With several players including wide receiver Allen Hurns and defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. having days off, the Jaguars worked for about two hours on the practice fields adjacent to EverBank Field on Thursday morning.
"It was a good practice," Bradley said after the Jaguars worked in 88-degree temperatures that felt like 98. "Obviously, we have a scrimmage tomorrow so the tempo and plays we ran we cut down a little."
The Jaguars worked in shorts and helmets Thursday after two consecutive days in full pads. Bradley said the lighter pads were also by design.
Bradley, after cutting practice short on Tuesday because he said it wasn't "up to our standards," said the last two days have been stronger. He said the defense started well Thursday, with linebacker Telvin Smith and cornerback Dwayne Gratz registering early interceptions.
"Offensively, we didn't start fast," Bradley said. "We threw two interceptions right away in our first backed-up situation. There are great learning lessons there. Some of the conversations with players were, 'OK, those things could happen. The big thing is how do you want to handle it now?'
"Every story, every movie you watch, every story that ends the story with a happy ending, experiences some conflict in the middle. We're going to experience some conflict."
Also on Thursday, offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum missed a second consecutive practice. The veteran signed with the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent and will compete with Luke Joeckel for the starting left tackle position, but the team continues to be cautious in his return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained with Pittsburgh in Week 6 of last season.
Bradley said Beachum remains on schedule in his return.
INJURY WATCH
Wide receiver Marqise Lee (hamstring) missed a sixth consecutive practice Wednesday.
Also missing practice were Beachum (knee), as well as center Brandon Linder (groin), wide receiver Rashad Lawrence (hamstring), running back Jonas Gray (quad), wide receiver Shaq Evans lower leg) and running back Chris Ivory.
Offensive lineman Luke Bowanko (ankle) and defensive end Jonathan Woodard (Achilles) remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
PLAY OF THE DAY
The early interceptions were the highlights of the day, with Smith taking a perfect angle on the ball and intercepting Bortles early. "You love it on defense," Bradley said. "It was perfect technique. Telvin, how he read the quarterback … that was exactly like we like it to look and how we want to teach it."
