JACKSONVILLE – Jaguars 2026 Training Camp continued Tuesday.
It was the 19th day of the second training camp under Head Coach Liam Coen, featuring a practice of about two hours against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Miller Electric Center. Each day throughout camp, members of Jaguars Media – senior writer John Oehser, senior correspondent Brian Sexton, team reporter Kainani Stevens and correspondent John Shipley – will share an observation.

- Day 19 featured spirit, intensity and hitting – with the first of two joint practices against the Buccaneers a good day for the Jaguars overall. A camp rarity also occurred, with quarterback Trevor Lawrence briefly in a mid-practice fracas with Buccaneers linebacker Alex Anzelone – a "fight" Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen jokingly called "hair on hair." Added Coen of Lawrence, "He was just trying to break up a scuffle. He wasn't trying to fight, by any means." It was a particularly good day for the Jaguars' defense in what could be their second-to-last padded practice before the regular season, with Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield saying afterward, "They gave us some good looks and were playing with their hair on fire. If this was a full game, I don't think we would have come out on the winning side." The Jaguars' front had a strong day, with end Josh Hines-Allen registering multiple would-be sacked and a strip-sack fumble. The Jaguars' offensive line also continued to take shape, with the following group continuing to work extensively as the starting unit: Left tackle Anton Harrison, left guard rookie Emmanuel Pregnon, center Robert Hainsey, right guard Ezra Cleveland, right tackle Walker Little. Cole Van Lanen – who spent the first part of training camp – on the Physically Unable to Perform is working toward being ready for Week 1. While that's unknown, Little has played well since an early training camp injury. Training camp is nearing an end, with the regular season fast approaching. On Tuesday, this felt like a team gearing up for what matters – and improving in the process.

- It's hard not to get excited about the Jaguars' secondary as camp nears an end. Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tony Boselli in June said the unit had to get stickier in coverage for the defense to take another step forward. The unit flew all over the field Tuesday, with cornerback Montaric Brown and safety Antonio Johnson intercepting Mayfield. The secondary was fast, physical and in the hip pocket all morning. It's rewarding to see Brown, who signed a new contract in March, play big – and Johnson looks to be the next defensive back who will earn a big deal. Johnson may have had the best camp of any Jaguars player, and it's clear that he will have a big role in defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile's second defense. He has the size, length, speed, and aggressiveness to be a chess piece each week. He's a fun guy to watch and a great story.

- Day 1 of joint practice with the Buccaneers was as spirited and physical as both sides could have wanted. The Jaguars' defense made things very difficult for Mayfield, with interceptions by Johnson and Brown ending the unit's practice takeaway drought. Lawrence was also under duress from a talented Bucs defensive line but held his own. Multiple scuffles between the Jaguars' offensive line and the Bucs' defensive line slowed the flow a bit. Lawrence even got into the mix to break things up, grabbing Anzalone by the shoulders and swinging him around to separate him from the fight. The Jaguars overall seemed to win the day in terms of physicality and toughness, and I'm intrigued to see how they come out Wednesday in what will likely be their final padded practice of training camp.

- The Jaguars' running game seems to be trending in the right direction. Coen was clearly happy with the area Tuesday, noting that he was particularly impressed by second-year running back Bhayshul Tuten. The running back duo of Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. consistently churned out productive runs, and the Jaguars might have found the right line combination with Pregnon at left guard and Cleveland at right guard. Second-year cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter continued focusing mostly on defense, taking all his team reps with that unit Tuesday. He recorded a pass breakup and a tackle for loss. He will continue playing both sides of the ball, but most of his time late in camp has been at cornerback, and he took valuable repetitions there against a talented Buccaneers wide receiver room Tuesday. He has all the makings of a starting cornerback in Week 1.
